still present issue through to 2.02beta2

some apps copy a zip file with some of the apk files present. But incomplete. Perhaps this info below can help.

bionic 4.1.2 - tested issue with both SD located and internal installs (function to move apps present)

maxx hd 4.1.2 - seems to be just SD located installs (function to move apps between SD and internal memory is not present)

first when "Configure - Root functions anywhere" is "unchecked" and we trying to remove symlink to the folder.

1. normaly it should remove symlink (unlink) (like rm does), but instead it removes symlink and whole target folder content. it is very dangerous! you want to remove only symlink, but lose all content.

2. also when this option is "unchecked" all symlinks to folders shown as folders, but in this mode hard to find is this symlink or regular folder. and files also are shown as regular files instead of symlink. it would be nice to have a small "->" sign at the end of the file name or folder like when this option is "checked".

3. when we will "check" "Configure - Root functions anywhere", symlinks to folder now will be shown as files without extension and will be sorted below folders. in this case hard to navigate to symlinked folders between hundreds of files. would be great draw symlinked folders as folders with small "->" sign and name of the link's target or with the additional small arrow icon in the corner of main icon.

4. when we trying copy symlink to elswhere we always get copy of symlink's taget, but not symlink itself. Yes normaly cp do the same, but in practice cp -d option is used very often when copying symlinks. Wound be cool to see simple dialog with - "what to copy?" question and with "target" / "symlink" buttons.

icons

The problem drawing of icons in the Internal associations dialog.

To see it we need create folder on sdcard and put there 300 icons 48x48 in png format (for example: http://www.iconhot.com/icon/zip/human-o2%20png.zip) and then

1. create new association via "Configure - Internal associations" menu

2. tap on "icon" button and navigate to icons folder. (icons now shown fully and fast.)

3. choose an icon and close the dialog.

Now repeat steps 1 - 3 five or six times. on step 2 icons will be drawing slower and slower each time and stops drawing at all.

pop-up

there is hard to catch little bug with pop-up menu on file / folder. Normally, when we long taping on icon pops-up selection menu, when long taping on file name pops-up action menu. But sometimes when we long taping on file name pops-up selection menu. Hard to catch this. It is very rare glitch.

cifs
-------------------------------------

hang-up with mounted remote resource.
what symptoms: when we have mounted remote common filesystem to the local folder and surf content of the mounted resource, total comander freezes and makes cpu load.

how to repeat:

first connect device to the network over wifi find remote machine in the same subnetwork with samba shares and mount its resource to the local folder:
moun -t cifs -o rw //192.168.0.1/share /mnt/folder (not so easy, but for example )

navigate to the mounted folder

now switch off wifi module on the device and return to the total commander

total commander now freezed for a long time with some cpu loading. All we can do this tap "force close" or "wait" button on pop-up system window. with 1000 Mhz dual core cpu it unfreezes after 2 minutes waiting. should notice that at the same time cifs.ko cause I/O error shown by df command until reboot.

additional thing is toolbar. which is not fully customizeable.

some function like zip or sorting order is used very rare. But user's custom comands - often. Now we able to create buttons with custom shell command like "sh /path/script.sh %N" this command gives us run own busybox script with one parametr for our script as file name.

With this feature we can do absolutely anything we want. It is magic of linux shell scripting. for example we can mount remote folder, switch wifi on/of with svc, run activities with am, format /system partition , and all that in one click on toolbar button.

usually busybox installed in /system/xbin but in $PATH env variable /system/bin has priority. and for support of full featured linux scripting we need make priority to busybox folder. If we create new button with
Command: su
Parametrs: export PATH=/system/xbin:$PATH ; sh %P%N
we will be able to run full featured linux scripts

linux scripts can receive many parameters as cmd line arguments ($0 $1 $2.... with space as delimiter) but now tc gives us specify only one as %N.

this is why multi parametrs sounds well. and %N can consist of the names of all selected files delimited with space. anyway for the correct selection in this case, user is responsible by himself..

Yes, as described above the same folder seemed to work OK with TC from internal but not from external. It worked OK on both with ES File Explorer.

Sorry, but your example does neither explain what is the difference between the system default (of the android system) and the language default (of the android system), nor does it respect that SYSTEM DEFAULT MUST BE WHAT WAS DECLARED VALID FOR ALL APPS (SETTING IN THE ANDROID SYSTEM SETTINGS) AND NOT THE LANGUAGE DEFAULT!

The problem is very simple: let's assume you are living in switzerland; in switzerland the date format is DD.MM.YYYY. But you want to have the language of your android-device in english ... but english is no official language in switzerland, and in english the format is MM/DD/YY (no dot, but slash inbetween � two digits for the year (and not four) � and month before date). So you set your android device systemwide to the setting DD.MM.YYYY for every date that will appear in any APP � meaning: EVERY APP USES DD.MM.YYYY for the date; that is the SYSTEM DEFAULT (that was chosen by the user and declared valid for the entire android system � as the english LANGUAGE DEFAULT MM/DD/YY is depreciated to be used within the entire android device for that user).

So the user has an android device with following settings:

a) LANGUAGE DEFAULT (of the chosen language) is: date format MM/DD/YY
(this is fixed and set to the language � you cannot change it; it is bound to the language and changes automatically if you change the android system language; you have to change date format in system settings if you do not want that date format � see b)

b) system default for date format is (now and only for this specific device � by changeing it in the android system settings) set to: DD.MM.YYYY (that is not the same format that the language has built in; language still remains in english, and language default still MM/DD/YY)!

that means: the system default for the date format was changed (in android system settings) and set to DD.MM.YYYY � that is not the same as the language default of the language that the device is set to.

Now let's come to TC with a device that has following device settings:
� device language is set to english
� default date format is set to DD.MM.YYYY (this is the (new) system default)
plase note: the system default is not the same as the language default!

c) language of TC is set to system language (this is the language that the android device was set to � in that case it is english)

d) date format of TC is set to system default (and not language default � but if you only use "system language" and take that "language default" it comes out wrong)

as seen above: system default for the date format (of the android device) was set to DD.MM.YYYY, so setting the device to "system default"must result in date setting of "DD.MM.YYYY" (and nothing else)

But what your software does is wrong:

The result is that the date format is set to language default (MM/DD/YY) of the system language and NOT to system default (that was set to DD.MM.YYYY) as it should be

So the problem (and bug) in your software is:

TC does NOT use the systemwide default (that is the system default) when setting to system default, but the (unchangeable) language default (that is NOT the system default, but the language default)!

YOU DO NOT RESPECT THAT THE SYSTEM DEFAULT CAN BE SET DIFFERENTLY TO THE (ANDROID AND TC) LANGUAGE DEFAULT; and it does not make sense to give two separate settings (for language default and system default), if both of them use "language default" and neither of them "system default"!

What I ask for is that if you set TC to "system default", system default is used and not language default (as it is now)!!

Please be aware: you can have 3 default settings:
1: android language default (that setting that is bound to the android language; it is fixed to the android system language and cannot be changed)
2: android system default (the setting that the user has set systemwide for his android device � it is not the same than android language default if it was changed; the user has the right and the possibility to do that � that expresses that he does not want to use the android language default as his own system default)
3: TC language default (the default of the language that was chosen for TC)

If TC was set in the same language than the android system, #1 and #3 are the same.

Now what you do is: you only let the user chose between #1 and #3 � but #1 was depreciated by the user and replaced by #2; but you do not let the user choose #2 as you pretend that the "system default" is setting #1; but that's wrong! that is "language default for the android system"; the user wants his own "system default" that he has changed to his own purpose. "system default" must be #2 and NOT #1!!!

Total Commander 2.02 is ready for release, but unfortunately there are some missing translations. It would be greate if someone here in the forum could post the translation. Only a single string needs to be translated:
"Sort: Random order"

This is shown in the context menu in the Media Player to sort all tracks by random order (shuffle). The following languages are missing:
- Simplified Chinese
- Portuguese (Portugal)
- Turkish
- Vietnamese

Please post the translation here or send it to support at ghisler dot com, so I can release the new version. Thanks!

Ja, die Hilfe ist auch in Deutsch! Wenn TC in English angezeigt wird, w�hlen Sie Configure, und stellen die Sprache dort manuell auf Deutsch um. Dann �ffnen Sie die Hilfe �ber das Men�, oder auf �lteren Ger�ten vor Android 3 �ber Men� - Konfigurieren - Hilfe (html).

Well "Language default" is the default for the language chosen by the user within Total Commander, while "System default" is the default for the language of the Android system. For example, a Russian user may have an English language phone, but still wants to use the Russian translation of TC (or vice versa, Russian system and English TC).

Guten Abend elAbuelo,

ein Handbuch habe ich leider auch nicht f�r Sie. Aber so schwierig zu bedienen ist die Software doch nicht, oder?

Es gibt allerdings eine "eingebaute" Hilfe im TC (zumindest auf meinem Droid3). Wenn ich den Button bzw. die Taste, die das Kontext Men� �ffnet, lange dr�cke, bis das besagte Kontext Men� ge�ffnet ist, dann steht da:

Ich habe TC in Englisch installiert. Wenn ich auf "Help (HTML)" tippe, dann wird auf meinem Android auch die Hilfe in Englisch ge�ffnet. Ich gehe davon aus, dass auf Ger�ten mit einem Deutschen TC diese Hilfe auch in Deutsch sein wird.
Oder ist sie es doch nicht und das ist Ihr eigentliches Problem?
Dann hilft vielleicht Google oder Bing translator.

Und um etwas gegen Ihre Entt�uschung zu tun, m�chte ich darauf hinweisen, dass �ber Pfingsten wahrscheinlich viele der aktiven User was anderes tun als in diesem Forum zu posten, z.B., Urlaub machen oder so.

Sorry, but why are you offering both ([system default] AND [language default]) separately if you set to language default if the user selects system default???

Language default is: "that setting that is automatically set if you select a certain language and DO NOT CHANGE the setting".

System default is: "that setting that is manually set if you change the setting � that setting is NOT THE SAME AS THE "LANGUAGE DEFAULT" (of the language that you had chosen)

So if you do not change the setting, the system default is automatically set to the language default. But if you change your systemwide settings to something else, the system default is no longer the same than the language default.

What your software does is mixing up system default with language default � if you select "system default", it is NOT THE CASE that your software uses system default, but it uses language default (AND NOT SYSTEM DEFAULT � because SYSTEM DEFAULT WAS MANUALLY SET DIFFERENTLY FROM LANGUAGE DEFAULT).

That looks like a clear bug � sorry.

Btw: example (and that's the case here):
Language used: english
Language default (standard format for the language your device is running on): MM-DD-YY

This format is NOT used here � so I set manually (in the Android system settings) the date format to DD.MM.YYYY (day before month and dots and not dashes as delimiter). AND NOW THIS IS THE SYSTEM DEFAULT used in the system of the device here.

Now I go into your software (TC) and set date format to "system default" ... in what format should that be??? In the format DD.MM.YYYY obviously ... as "system default" was selected � and the systemwide setting was set to DD.MM.YYYY

But what does your software do? It sets it to MM-DD-YY ... and this is NOT system default � this is language default � and that was declared invalid and overrided by a different setting (the system default).

Hmm ... but that's the same?? And that's what I complain about! So you pretend to allow "system default" (in your options and offer it for the user to be selected), but instead of really using system default (that can be different than language default), you use "language default" instead, what you also offer separately ... And that's the result (that if you select system default, it is set to language default and not to system default) � specially if it is not the same).

That's a clear bug in my opinion � sorry ...

Hmm ... the thing was that I did not have another folder with so many files, so I just copied (with another file manager) that precise same folder with the problem from the external on the internal - so I doubt it was from the file name. Also that would not explain how when at 1990 files or so it works the first time - but not for the second one.

One of the things that I was afraid was from the way those are "mounted" - on the internal the UID of the folder creator is shown as 0 (root), but on external it is 1000 (system) - and the GID is also slightly different. But again it does not explain what happens at the level of 1990.

Other than a fixed-buffer in TC my wild guess was something inside the system in something like the "enumeration callback" - but I never looked on how that is done on Android so that is just a very wild guess

This is configurable - just open the context menu of the LAN plugin and check the option to also use it over the phone.

In principle, there is no difference in reading the file list on the internal and external SD card. No root rights are needed in either case. Maybe TC doesn't like one of the file names?

It would be nice if there was no requirement for WiFi to be on when using the LAN plugin. This is very usefull when using VPN connections.
