Access to Files/Folders in Android connected to the same LAN

Post by *y-saida »

Hi,
I am a happy user of Total Commanders for Windows and Android.
I have one question:
Do you have a plug-in to provides Total Commander a LAN access function in the similar manner as the LAN plug-in for Android Total Commander?

I would be more happy if I had same convenient access back and forth between Android systems(Ideapad and Rikomagic MK802 + Sharp LCD TV) and Windows PCs in my LAN.

There is no need for a LAN plugin on Windows because Windows supports it natively. Just go to the "\" drive with Alt+F1 or Alt+F2 to browse your connections. You can add them to the Ctrl+D directory hotlist (bookmarks), or drag to the button bar.

Thanks for your reply.
But the answer seem a bit offset from what I intended to ask.

While I can easily connect to Windows PCs' share folders from my Anriod system's Total Commander by activating TotalCmd LAN plugin, I can't access folders in my Android systems from Windows PC's neither by Total Commander for Windows nor by Windows file explorer.

What I found was that Windows PCs (and Ubuntu PCs too) can not detect Android systems being connected to the same router!

After some trials wishing eagerly to access folders/files in Android systems from Windows PCs, I managed to establish a connection from Windows Total Commander's FTP client function to Android systems running SwiFTP(a simple FTP server for Android) which I downloaded from Google play market.

Althouh this hybrid Android-Windows bilateral file transfer capability is by far more comfortable than common USB cable connection, I am still looking for more convenient Windows to Android file management connection - For example connect to Android like just by hitting the "NetWork button" in the drive button bar of Windows Total Commander.

Is there some way to realize such Windows to Android connection?
Or possibility to introduce such function to TC for Android?

You will need a server software on your Android device, like the FTP server you found. For Windows shares, you need an SMB server (called Samba on Linux). Try Google Play:

I downloaded Samba Filesharing from Google Play by your instruction.
The appli asked for "root" in its 1st run.
But it did not cause problem for my tablet because it was already rooted.
After brief setup procedures, it started to work perfectly!

Thanks a lot!
