I may move to phpbb3 in a few months when the worst bugs have been fixed. As with every new release, many bugs will only be found when it is used by a large audience. The biggest problem will be the porting of the dozens of phpbb extensions used in my board. Some of them will become obsolete because phpbb3 already supports the functions, but others may have to be rewritten - and Winter is the busiest time for us...

I'm not so sure about that, because I would lose all the extensions which I added here over the years. Is there ANY feature in phpbb 3 which would make such a huge step worth all the troubles?

Indeed, i am also a fan of this (sometimes). DOS also worked fine for most people you know, but for some reason, the world moved on to Windows (for better or worse i don't know)...Sir_SiLvA wrote:Ill stick to "never change a running system"

Anyway, apart from all the fun and teasing, i've played a little with phpBB3 and it seems to be much more flexible and organized than phpBB2, especially in the administration-moderation part. IMHO, an upgrade should be done eventually. It's a more modern platform and it will probably help in organizing and moderating the forums. I also don't use RSS but i'll have to agree with Sir_SiLvA though: it should be done only when all current phpBB2 options are provided by a phpBB3 installation (RSS, etc). As much as i'd love to see an upgrade, it shouldn't be done just for the sake of upgrading. There is no point on making users uncomfortable by changing a system that works.

Normally using latest TC on:
x32: WinXPx32 SP3 (very rarely nowadays).
x64: Clients/Servers - Win10/Win11 and Win2K16 to Win2K22, mainly Win10 though.

"PLEASE PLEASE DONT Update to Version 3.x
till they implement a RSS-Feed posibility :!"
i agree. i have had(?) used rss some amount of time. with opera. it is good enough thing. but i think it would be better if an information does not go multiple times. but now, as i know, if you get rss feed there are always a list of some latest posts. so you download some of them multiple times. but seeing forum many times maybe even more uneconomical, because there a lot of topic names appear (in viewforum.php). in some forums it is customisable, maybe also in phpbb3. in this forum it is not customisable, i have seen just now.
some other bad features of phpbb3: if you save this forum page decorated(?) with prosilver style(default) to local file "html with images" or ".mht", its styles are not saved by modern browsers. and it seems to be slower: first appear without styles and then style is loaded.
good features: subforums, attaching files for downloading and pictures. but it seems to me ghisler is not going to allow attaching files because it is available also on phpbb2 through/with mods, as i know.
subforums may be good for better categorization. there are english forum and english forum "suggestions" now, and there are not "suggestion" forums in other languages.

So I think an update to phpBB3 will be inevitable.Commencing Wednesday 1st October 2008, phpBB 2.0.x download links will be removed from the download page at phpBB.com.
Commencing Thursday 1st January 2009, phpBB 2.0.x will be formally retired, and support will no longer be actively provided for 2.0.x.
Security patches, if required, will be provided until Sunday 1st February 2009.
