I'm finding Windows 7 to be very annoying because almost all media devices plugged in to the USB ports do not behave "correctly" with Total Commander... files are not handled like normal files and often the device doesn't show up at all.
E.g. the old wiacam plugin I used in XP will not work for my camera (file details are not given or copied properly, files can not be deleted, file-lists do not update when the camera is unplugged and plugged in again), and my friend's video camera and iPad both could not be found in TC although they were available in Explorer.
I know it's probably Microsoft's fault for not handling these devices as normal file storage (a trend which I hate!), but since this type of device is now everywhere I think TC really should communicate with them out of the box... or otherwise give some easy to follow links to help and plugins which can fix it.
In the meantime, I would appreciate it if anyone has any tips... I didn't see a comprehensive "all media devices" plugin or general fixes in the forums.

If Apple would make stuff correctly like ie Nokia Phones or MP3-Players wich connect correctly as storage devices the problem wouldnt exist.
Btw it would be nice if u tell would version of windows 7 do you use - x64 or x32

Hoecker sie sind raus!
I'm using x64. Yeah, I guessed it was Apple's fault with the iPad, but if the driver is downloaded and installed so Explorer can see it - why not for TC? Doesn't this just mean TC needs to interface with whatever Explorer is using for these devices?
I already go to the root "my computer" folder... the video camera and iPad didn't show up there - even though they *are* visible in the Windows Explorer version.

Thanks!
This is exactly what I needed to know, thanks.HolgerK wrote:2MossMan
You can try to access these devices via the virtual folder \\Computer.
- "Menu -> Commands -> Open Desktop Folder"
- Open the folder [Computer]
