Let me rephrase my words:

What you dislike about the Total Commander VistaDelete method, used on Windows Vista and higher, is not that

• it is faster than the old delete method. Right?
  
• it uses a lot less RAM then the old delete method. Right?

What you dislike about the Total Commander VistaDelete method, used on Windows Vista and higher, is

• the fact that the confirmation dialogue looks different (displayed by Windows itself, not T.C.) and that there is a second box behind it (delete progress, displayed by T.C.). Right?

So what you do not like about Total Commander VistaDelete method is not the faster, more efficient work under the hood, but its outward appearance only. Right?

What I dislike about the VistaDelete method is how it requires a different key sequence to be pressed. This is a problem due to years of imprinted muscle memory, which then resulted in me actually canceling the delete instead.
Before I finally disabled VistaDelete, I often had to delete files several times, because I kept interrupting it with my routine key presses.

I never noticed any speed issues with VistaDelete off, so I don't really care about that benefit.

With VistaDelete off, under Vista/Win7 TC will delete each file in a folder one at a time. If the folder only has half-a-dozen files - then it wont be noticeable ... but try with a folder that has 20/50/100 or more files. The Vista Delete method can move the folder itself to the Recycle Bin, one delete one system call, instead of 20/50/100+.

Also, if you accidentally delete a folder (with VistaDelete) you can restore the folder AND it's contents from the Recycle Bin --- whereas TC's delete method will destroy the file structure/location of the files and the folder cannot be restored.

I could turn off the Cancel button in the progress dialog until the files have been counted and the confirmation dialog has been shown - that's how it was in older betas, but it was criticized as a bug...

Well, I too have to say I didn't like the Windows confirmation dialog.
Went back to Vistadelete=0 but after I googled to see if there is a way to avoid the delete confirmation.
There is. It's sufficient to right click on the trashcan on the desktop, go to Properties and uncheck "Display Delete Confirmation" setting.
That way TC behaves like it always did. Of course with this setting also other programs which use windows to delete files won't display that dialog.
For me it's ok so, since I use mostly TC for every file operation.
Maybe there is a way to set that flag directly from TC just before a deletion. I don't know

In previous releases I noticed the slowness with large numbers of files too, so I emptied the recycle bin before the delete operation.

With TC8.0 at first I thought the new dialog was slightly annoying, but now I discovered that the delete action is not logged anymore!
(Very useful to find out what wrong file you accidentally deleted.)

Thanks to this thread I could solve this problem by putting VistaDelete=0 in my ini file.

Indeed it's the same as when using the Explorer method, delete operations aren't logged. I will check whether this can be added.
