Deleting folder from a separate tree impossible.

Post by *headd »

1. Enable Separate Tree
2. Select a folder from the tree.
3. Delete the folder by "Delete" key or "F8" key or by RightClick-Delete.

Notice that for a short amount of time, the confirmation window appears, but it instantly dissapears, making the Delete operation impossible.

TC version 8.0 x32 (2012-05-23)

Thanks.

Hello, headd.

So far I cannot reproduce the reported behaviour.
1. Enable Separate Tree
Done.
2. Select a folder from the tree.
Done.
3. Delete the folder by "Delete" key or "F8" key or by RightClick-Delete.
Done by pressing the DEL key. Confirmation dialogue appeared. I confirmed the folder went to the recycle bin.

Steps 2 and 3 have been repeated on 5 different folders. 5 times success.

Windows 7 Enterprise 32-but, SP1
Total Commander 8.0 final
VistaDelete=1 active (default on Win7 by the way)

Kind regards,
Karl

Hey, thanks for the responses

This happens on both home and work computer.

If i delete the ini files, and redo the steps, selecting a folder from the tree, it works for the first folder. If i try to delete another one, the confirmation box blinks.

Unfortunately, i uninstalled TC, deleting any leftovers, and did a clean reinstall, to no avail. It works the first time and then it doesn't anymore.

My OS is Win7 x64.

I can confirm the issue. On my computer it behaves rather randomly. For example, if I try to delete a folder, that is currently opened in a panel, most of the times it doesn't work. But for some other folders it works always. Changing the current directory to something else (and then back) sometimes helps. Right now I can't find reliable way of reproducing it. BTW, vistadelete=1 is a must to see this bug. And this bug exists also in older versions (7.57a and even 7.55a).

Hello, headd and umbra,

I am absolutely  delighted  because I am able to reproduce the reported problem now.

It did not happen on Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 32-bit.
But it does happen on Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit.
And as can be read, you both are using Windows 7 64-bit, too.

On Windows 7 64-bit the problem can be reproduced using both T.C. 8.0 editions, 32-bit and 64-bit.

Now we will have to find out the relevant factor(s)...
The T.C. setting autotreechange=0|1 does not seem to be relevant by the way.

Cheers,
Karl

I guess you meant "AutoTreeChange=0|1", and no, it really doesn't seem to be relevant. So far, the only settings that seems to have some effect is VistaDelete=1, but that is already known.

I can reproduce the bug with both 32- and 64-bit TC 8.0 on Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit, but not with Windows XP (32-bit).

Well, I can reproduce it on Windows 8 x32, so it's not an x64 specific problem.

No, I guess not. But Windows XP doesn't support Vistadelete, so that is probably why the bug can't be reproduced under Windows XP.

Sorry, I definitely cannot reproduce it. If no one can give me a clue, I will have to move this thread to "will not be changed", sorry.

Here it is easy to reproduce:

1. Open TC 8.0 32- or 64-bit with fresh ini-file on Windows 7 x64
2. Make a directory in the root of drive c: (for example c:\test)
3. Press Ctrl+Shift+F8 to open one Separate tree.
4. In the file panel where you made c:\test press Enter on c:\test
5. Now the Separate tree for [C:] is unfolded one level, and c:\test is marked red.
6. Right click on c:\test in the Separate tree and choose Delete OR mark c:\test in the Separate tree and press the Delete key.
7. A quick flash of some dialog box is seen, bot nothing happens - c:\test is NOT deleted.

If you manually insert VistaDelete=0 in the ini file, then it works OK. Also if I press Shift+Delete the folder is also deleted as expected.

petermad's instructions are accurate. It's not the only way to reproduce this issue, but it's the simplest and the most reliable way.
Here is a video, in case you want to see it in action.

Thanks, I could reproduce it now! The clue was to be in a directory with very few (or no) files in it. The folder position in the tree had to be lower than the last file in the file list.

Seems to be fixed in TC 8.01 rc1. I can now delete such folders.
