1. I don't know what burning application you use, but e.g. Nero adds its entry to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths

TAR can autocomplete and launch such an aliases, so you can use it. For Nero it is "nero" %).

2. To add new alias you can paste to console complete path to executable (in most cases I copy it from Commander by F12) and hit ^N.

d> can you just point out how you use this great little tool
d> what shortcuts do you have ?

Actually I don't have many aliases, in most cases I use autocompletion of inserted lines from history, e.g. to open some Control Panel applet I type "co", get "control" alias completion than hit space and get its last entered parameter completion (e.g. "control ports.cpl") or go through them by tab, or type first letters to speed-up completion etc.
The same thing with Dial-Up Networking - I type "ra" to get "rasphone" than space and I get last connection started, e.g. "rasphone -d my_prov" etc. But to broke connection I use rasdial alias "disconnect|rasdial|/d||0", it looks like rasphone have some problems with "-h" parameter.
So this is how I do not use aliases %). And don't forget about "App Paths" key - my idea is to use system resources with TAR autocompletion and history as hard as possible. You can forget alias you made but not standard build-in one.

Well, it described in the manual, so you shouldn't actually :).

Another fine prog: LeechGet. Actually I have a question, if anyone is experienced with it. The LeechGet forum is open only for registered users :-( and I couldnt find any info on the internet about my problem which is: did anyone succeed using LeechGet with a SOCKS4 proxy? FlashGet works flawlessly with it, but i cant use LeechGet with the same proxy :-( Any hints?
I switched to Linux, bye and thanks for all the fish!

A new great little helper by the author of the EDXOR notepad replacement:
dsFSR, a file search and replace utility contained in 9kb:

http://members.ozemail.com.au/~nulifetv/freezip/freeware
http://members.ozemail.com.au/~nulifetv/freezip/freeware/dsfsr.exe

Use it as a button for example:
command: dsfsr.exe
parameters: %P

Enter phrase to find and phrase to replace, click Ok.
All instances in current folder get replaced, before you get warned of course. ;)

All his apps are extremely small and powerful, the best tiny apps collection from a single developer I've seen till now. Check out his file splitter, password container, disk tree viewer, nfo viewer, task killer, cd and dvd CRC checker, etc...

Oh, this is probably the best viewer replacement for Lister:

http://www.caravan.ru/~alexch/download/View64.zip

(if only we had better support for English. The guys that have created this gem are Russians)

Hi !
• With a Russian LNG file only, it's unusable and untranslatable.
• Moreover, the system of this language-file - not numbered lines - is one in the worst I know. It needs to repeat n… times the same string.
The files are double-size and more than the ones written in other systems, like TC ones.
And they are very difficult to update. I've a pen-friend who uses that in his softs, it's really laborious, confusing and unpleasant.
• Except whether somebody here could get or make at least a translatable English LNG, I'll put that ZIP … in bin.

Claude

What about a powerful file search tool?

I'm not saying the one in TC isn't powerful - but I'd like to "filter" the folders in searches in.

I have a dev tree that's really big (40K files), and I would like to do searches without even trying to search in certain folders, like debug, release, CVS and so on.

This will I think speed up the process greatly. Is anyone using an alternative file search tool that could handle this kind of thing and that could be called from TC?

Two programs I find useful that haven't yet noted here are:

WorldTime - a freeware World Clock with map, astro data, and atomic clock synchronization features, alarms, stopwatch, chimes etc

Versaverter - a freeware flexible unit conversion application (everything from angstroms to zettagrays)

Both from http://www.pawprint.net/ under software

Best text viewer replacement for the Lister:

Not free, but head and shoulders above the field.
Licensed, Mouse-Centric, moving (slowly) toward Touch-centric

Since we are now talking about general useful tools, here are some that I currently use everyday/often (*sorry if somebody already posted these).

Programs to change the look and feel:
SmartBarXP - Adds a customizable informational stylish bar on the side of the screen.
Desktop Sidebar - Same as above, some differences between form and functionality.
Stardock programs - A plethora of programs to change your Windows looks, ranging from Windowblinds (skinning) to DesktopX (dynamic items on desktop to do almost anything) to ObjectDock (have a dock like Macs) to ObjectBar (your own Start menu) to Iconpackager (system icon sets), and there's more.
StyleXP - A Windows themed skinning program, much like Windowblinds but better. (*Actually, I just use the StyleXP skins, you can just switch the skins in Desktop Properties)

And if you want to go all out and change your whole shell:
Go to Shell Extension City and Shell-Shocked and Choose Your Shell for shell reviews, and here are more programs to change your Windows look and Deviantart has most of the programs that are skinnable or skins other programs.

Security/network related:
Agnitum Outpost Firewall - IMHO, the best firewall.
AATools - Tool to check proxies and it has other tools like email verifier, port scanner, whois, etc.
Cain & Abel - Password recovery with some network tools.
Eraser - Free tool to securely delete your data, includes the Guttman method.
Eset NOD32 - IMHO, the greatest antivirus software, it catches everything, isn't a memory or CPU intensive, fast updates, isn't annoying like some other antivirus programs.
Ethereal - Network sniffer.
Freenet Project - Encrypted anonymous network.
Hiew - Dissassembler, try W32DASM and SoftIce (debugger) if you find it.
JAP - Anonymous surfing going through "mixes".
LC 4 - "Password" recovery...
MultiProxy - Proxy server to connect to proxies for anonymous surfing.
PGP - I hope everybody knows what this is.
Proxomitron - IMHO, the best web filter out there, it stops everything, from popups to malicious scripts to cookies and it goes great with JD filters.
Spybot Search and Destroy - Free tool to get rid of adware and spyware.
VNC - Wooohooo, a free remote control software.

Windows optimizing/performance programs:
Ace Utilities - A great set of utilities that gets rid of ALL your history mainly in Windows (even prefetch and page file), Internet Explorer, and other programs. It also cleans your registry, removes your junk files, and some other stuff too.
Diskeeper - Everybody should have this, it keeps your disk(s) always defragmented and when you do it manually, it's faster than the Windows version (I think they made the Windows version too).
JV16 Powertools - Tools to optimize Windows.
Tweak UI - Tweak UI and some other Windows powertools.
Your Uninstaller! - I would recommend people to have this program because it removes all the registry, folders, and files that are left after you uninstall a program.
TuneUp Utilities - !!!This is the mother load of optimizing programs!!!! This is the best, it has everything!

Miscellaneous:
Atmosphere Nature Sound Generator - Generates relaxing sounds to soothe your mind, body, and soul.
Auto Patcher - Updates your Windows OS to the newest updates without going to Window Updates. It's useful for new installations.
BartPE - Windows PE builder.
Babylon - An offline dictionary. You should get it if you are looking for a multilingual dictionary or just a plain dictionary.
Bitzi Bitcollider - Download verified programs.
CDCheck - Recovers files on CDs.
Easy Message - Free lite universal IM program.
FlashFXP - FTP or FXP program.
Fsum - The best checksum program, it has everything, it's like most of the checksum programs from Dariusz Stanislawek's website combined.
Klient - IRC program.
Media Player Classic - Better than Windows Media Player in most aspects.
Opera Search.ini Editor - Edit your search.ini to add more aliases.
PC Activity Monitor - Monitor the ones you hate or are suspicious about. Go to keylogger.org for reviews.
Renamer - A good renaming tool.
Sleipnir - A good browser.
StrokeIt - Mouse gestures for Windows and every program.
Texas Instruments Derive - Math program.
The Godfather - Free mp3 tag editor.

Other sites full of utilities:
Acronis
Executive Software
Paragon
PowerQuest
Sysinternals (*This one has mostly free programs.)
Winternals (*Commercial site of Sysinternals.)

Thank you Black Dog for TypeAndRun, a most useful utility.
