background copy failes if HD is sleeping

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

background copy failes if HD is sleeping

Post by *adoeller »

copy will start - after spinning up the hd.
the "background" button is shown, but no reaction.

steps:
wait for spinning down of hd (destination)
start copy to sleeping hd
press "background"
copy process will start after starting of hd
press "background"
"background" will now work

regards,
alex

"Background" is only enabled once the copying has started.

of course.
but the hd has to start, therefore the copy process waits in foreground for the hd and continues in foreground. it will never go to background after pushing the button.

There is really some problem with moving copy operation to background. I noticed this many times, when transferring large files during high CPU loads. This was however completely random and I wasn't able to reproduce this problem reliably.

Maybe there is some short timeout in TC, when moving to background? This could be a problem in case of HDD sleeping or high CPU load.

And, as far as I remember, if this problem appeared, moving to background became unusable (not working anymore) until copy operation finished or even until TC restart (I don't remember) - exactly as adoeller says.

Maybe it would be a good idea to send some debug TC build to adoeller, since he is able to reproduce the problem reliably.
