Cannot install adobe flash player when starting exe from TC?

Post by *att »

Hello,
I have a very weird bug. I cannot install "Adobe Flash player 24 xa.exe" - freshly downloaded from adobe.com - when I start the EXE from TotalCommander 64 9.0.

I always get a screen saying "Installation failed".

So did I catch a virus or is Adobe too stupid.... ??
I hardly doubt it is a bug in Totalcommander; I suspect a bug in Adobe; but none the less I am posting this odditiy here, since it only happens with Totalcommander. It installs fine when being started from Explorer!

File details:
flashplayer24_xa_install.exe 1.201.256 21.01.2017 08:57 -a--

Fingerprint of the cert of the exe file:
‎42 6d 90 69 e6 12 63 7f aa be aa 4c 71 fe df b0 66 8b d8 6f

Downloaded from:
https://get.adobe.com/de/flashplayer/download/?installer=FP_24_for_Firefox_-_NPAPI&os=Windows%207&browser_type=Gecko&browser_dist=Firefox&dualoffer=false&m ... l_True_Key

(No McAffee or IntelTrueKey selected).

Anyone can confirm this as a bug or is it just my computer.....

I also got to know that this EXE deletes itself after installation. I consider this bad behaviour from Adobe. (Yea, I feel sorry to bother poor Totalcommander with this).

HOWEVER, when I start this Adobe EXE from the explorer, it installs fine!?!

Thus: Any clue why an Installation of this Adobe Flashplayer WILLNOT work when started from TCM is welcome.

You are probably running Total Commander with higher user rights (as administrator), or with compatibility settings (e.g. run as Windows XP or so). Then the installer may not work.
