Numeric sort in Total Commander

Post by *plawer »

I've noticed how Explorer in Windows XP is able to sort numeric files although they do not have the same length in the filename.

Total Commander sorts based on the length of the filename.

Could it be considered to include numeric sort of directories in a future version of Total Commander?

Thanks in advance,

Welcome!

you have to set a configuration value in your configuration file manually.
The name of your configuration is in most cases Wincmd.ini. It can be locatad by a look in the Help/About Total Commander dialog.
Open this file and add/edit the "SortUpper" value in the Configuration section and set it to 2.

Thanks. I'm a long time user, but it's my first visit here.

The suggested worked like a charm. Is it documented somewhere?

Help >> Total Commander Help index >> 4 >> b>> INI-File settings: >> wincmd.ini, >>> [Configuration] >>
SortUpper=0
0: Default sort method
1: When sorting files, put files starting with an underscore _ last
2: Uses mixed lexical and numerical sorting, e.g. file10.txt comes AFTER file1.txt

Please read the "Read the fabulous manual..." you can find it on the web page of our friend "Clo" >>> (Téléchargements) >> total-commander-tutorial.zip :D

The new location to change this is in the application itself:

Configuration -> Options -> Display ->
there's a drop down called Sort Method, there you can choose 'Natural sorting: by character code and numbers', in the File Display area at the top.
