You can do the same via TAR - any number of aliases to any folders.[/face]

New version (I was a bit late on reporting this) of the freeware text editor PSPad.

Get it here: http://www.pspad.com/en/download.php

Diff-Ext
"Win32 shell extension. Allows to launch diff/merge tools on selected files", much like the one that comes with Beyond Compare.

Ok, two incredibly useful utilities that show the power of OpenSource. These are probably the best of its kind:

1. Alt-Tab replacement TaskSwitchXP
The 2.0 series offers a tremendous load of features, there's not much more that can be implemented I think:
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/taskswitchxp/TaskSwitchXP_2.0.4b.exe?download
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/taskswitchxp/TaskSwitchXP_2.0.4b-bin.zip?download

Everything can be configured: size of preview picture, font, hotkeys, minimize to tray function, exclusions, preview picture, etc...

2. WinDirStat, a treemap alternative to SequoiaView, DiskMapper and the formerly best SpaceMonger
It offers statistics and coloring per file type, can read single folders, supports zooming, path copying, starting Explorer or DOS box in the activated path and can even be configured for custom actions like starting TC, etc...
Check this pic and you will know what I mean:
http://windirstat.sourceforge.net/windirstat.jpg

SpaceMonger is better suited when you like to have the path name directly printed in the treeview.

Notepad2

Post by *Lupus »

Hello, I recommend Notepad2 as Notepad replacement.
It's a small, fast and free text editor with syntax highlighting for HTML and other common languages.
It stores its settings in the registry, yet. I made a suggestion to the author about using an ini-file instead and he told me, he plans that for a future version.
I know win32pad, but apart from the ini matter Notepad2 is much better.

Well, my recommendation for replacement of Notepad is NoteXPad.
The priority of NoteXPad is that it is developed with Win32ASM. It means fast speed, small size, and the original power of coding.

Key Features:
>Filesize is limited to the available memory (not 64k).
>Automatically detects ANSI(default)/Unicode/Unicode (big endian)/UTF-8 encoded characters and WIN(default)/UNIX/MAC file formats, when opening files, can convert between various file formats and encodings when saving files.
>Recent used files list (will handle up to 10 entries).
>Customize Tools Menu.
>Auto-indent & Tab Size support.
>URLs can be highlighted and clickable.
>Associate any file extensions with NoteXPad and can intelligently revert to former association.
>Can open any files through integrating NoteXPad into Explorer.
>Convert Tabs<-> Spaces.
>Convert text case (Upper, Lower, Invert Case).
>Copy on Select.
>Paste on Copy.
>Wrap to Return.
>Inform you when current opened file is modifed by another application.
Catch program exception and send bug report.

Great NoteXPad, Try it!

My Tips for TextEditors:

SingleFileEditing:
NotepadEx (http://notepadex.cjb.net/)
Advantages:
  • - can read files with file sizes greater than 32KB
    - extends the Notepad search function with a very fast replace function
    - has a recent files list
    - optionally shows a status bar with the cursor position and the file size in it
    - uses more shortcut keys:
    • Ctrl+N to create a new document
Ctrl+O to open an existing document
      Ctrl+S to save the document
      Ctrl+P to print the document
Ctrl+A to select all the text
      Ctrl+F to search for text
Ctrl+H to search and replace text
      Ctrl+W to toggle Word Wrap
    - offers you the possibility to use custom keyboard shortcuts (hotkeys) to quickly insert text
    - can open and save DOS, Unix and Mac files
    - can open and save Ansi and Unicode files
    - can restore the cursor position when opening recently used files
    - has a function to change the text case (sentence case, lowercase, uppercase, title case, toggle case)
    - can trim trailing spaces
    - can wrap text at a specified column width
    - can show the full path name for the document being edited
    - can use the associated icon for the document being edited (just like WordPad does)
    - has multi-language support (the currently supported languages are Chinese [PRC], Chinese [Taiwan], Czech, Dutch, English, Estonian, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Spain, Swedish and Turkish)
    - has a function to preview HTML and XML files in your browser
    - can be run in single instance mode
    - can stay on top of all other windows
    - is Freeware
Disadvantages:
  • - Uses Registry for Saving Settings
    - NotepadEx is not actively supported anymore
    - Cant Replace CR/LF
MultiFileEditing:
NoteTabLight http://www.notetab.com/
Advantages:
  • - settings saved in an Ini-File
    - Search&Replace for Multiply Files at one !!!
    - AutoCorrect/Auto-replace mode
    - Clip tool for quick and easy text insertion
    - Freeware
    - and a lot other Editor can do
    - comes from TCs Homeland :)
Disadvantages:
  • - havent found any (yet - after using it as long as tc nearly)...
@Christian (or Mods):
  • doesnt work? :?
    Example:
    • item1
      item2
@Dreamer: Why dont you translate your page into english so that non-chinise speaking/reading people can watch the site ? :D
Hoecker sie sind raus!

The right markers---

Post by *Clo »

2Sir_SiLvA
:) Hello !
  • doesnt work?
¤ It works using the right syntax :

Code: Select all

List item#1

List-item #2 ...
OR :

Code: Select all

List-item "a"

list-item "b" ...
- Personally, I use a HTML éditor I patched to write directly these pseudo-markers with (60) custom-buttons (creating a php-BB profile…)

You can also use the BBCodes plugin in case you are using the Maxthon browser.. Definately an impressive browser and perhaps the best I have tried so far.. Even better that Firefox IMHO... (it even offers the ability to switch between the IE or the Gecko engines for rendering!!)

Don't know if it's mentioned yet in this thread, but a very nice ASCII-editor also is : EditPad Lite.
http://www.editpadpro.com/nl/editpadlite.html
It's multi-lingual, can do a multi-file search-and-replace and a multi-file save. And it has a sophisticated option
for printing out txt-files with the present Winfonts. A double-click on an URL in the textfile activates the browser.
