[Suggestion] Why not a stronger "Compare by content ...

Post by *enineera »

We can use TC to compare two files. But the function is too simple.

Why not a stronger "Compare by content ..."?

More concrete suggestions, please. :) What do you mean by "stronger"?

Hm... What about people who don't use this program? I personally don't want to waste my time installing the software that I don't need...

The next version of TC will have a much improved compare function, and will also allow to specify an external compare tool if it's still not good enough.

:) Good evening,

• Did you think to add the support for the UTF-8 text, like I suggested a while ago showing THIS CAPTURE ?

Will it also have some GUI improvements?
Like:
  • Highlight the current difference with a different background color (even if the focus is not on the list box)
  • Different background color for differences (different color for addition, deletion, modification)
Would be much appreciated...

Hide TC-numbering…

Post by *Clo »

2ghisler(Author)

:) Good morning,

- It should be very useful for me too either to hide the own TC line-numbering, or (at least) to set 2…3 spaces between them and the real text, or to colour them differently.
• Reason : comparing i.e. language-files, I get useless differences caused by different empty "separator-lines" or so which are not meaningful at all, and this marking off makes confusions with the real IDs of the files…
- On the two panels, of course…

- An "On/Off" button set at the up / right part should fit easily to hide, INI entries for the other means could be sufficient… 8)
What do you think ?

No, unfortunately not - UTF-8 is causing me many problems even in the normal lister. For example, I couldn't find a way to implement cases-insensitive searching in UTF-8.

Different background colors aren't currently implemented, but I will consider it.

- Thank you, I guess that if one could be set for the TC lines numbering, it should do the trick…

:| But the lack of UTF-8 is really annoying…

WinMerge (on sourceforge) supports UTF-8 and ignoring case (IIRC).
As the source code is available, maybe it could give you a hint on how they did it (WinMerge is C++ and TC is Delphi though, but the Windows API calls are probably named the same)
