Winzip 10 Encrytion

Post by *AnthonyCian »

Just wondering if TC will be supporting the new encryption in Winzip 10, 128 Bit AES and 256 Bit AES? This might of been in Winzip 9 and just noticed it when upgraded to v10.

Anyway, when these encryptions are used, TC is unable to un-pack... This probably isn't a new issue, but thought I would ask...

To unpack these you need both the unzip decryption addon and the AES plugin (a recent version of it), then it will work! And yes, they were created by Winzip 9 already.

Can you please tell me what I exactly have to install to unzip these files?
And where to find those files?

"decryption addon" is a certain wcmzip32.dll. Copy it to your TC folder, overwriting the existing one. Try to Google for it ( it has 32768 bytes as of 29.09.2001)

Download thewcmzip32.dll.zip. It's the decryption addon.

Sheepdog,
Download thewcmzip32.dll.zip. It's the decryption addon.
Are you sure it's not only for encryption?
And apart from that, it doesn't support the abovementioned AES algorithm.

No I'm not sure. I only referred to sqa_wizards post and wanted to give the link.

So is there another winzip.dll or has @ghisler been mistaken?

I'm not familiar with this because I rarely use encryption at all.

Sheepdog,
Aha, then I misunderstood you, sorry. In this case I just want to point out that the AES plugin is still needed. :)

The problem is that most of the people I communicate with wouldn't be able to decrypt my messages. I'm still happy, when they can receive my mails at all.

"Hey Stefan, can you tell me my password for my Mail-Acccount?" and in most cases I can....

You need the wcmzip32.dll.zip. and the AES Plugin.

After overwriting the existing WCMZIP32.DLL in your program directory by that one from the download link and installing the AES Plugin ( and restarting TC of course) you should be able to open those files.

Was out of town, just got back. Great information all around on this topic. I already was using the encryption wcmzip32.dll.zip. I just needed to download and install the AES plugin, which did the trick.

Thanks everyone for the Info!!!
