Thanks to take care of a problem that seems to occur to only a very few number of users. Unfortunately it occurs at random time and I have no clue what can cause that.

Just a few elements

- It appears recently in 6.52 or 6.53
- Win2000
- I use samba quite extensively (Linux partitions)
- I use define colors by file type to show recent file (not older than 3 days -> green)

That's all I can think of :(

I do use TCM 6.53
Renaming works with Explorer (hihi workaround)
Windows XP SP2
Kaspersky (switched off - no effect)
Zonealarm (switched off - no effect)
Skype
Copernic
are loaded.

So if you could ask pls., what you want to know (this is the only way, I could think how to progress) I / may be we / will answer and define it step by step?

Yes, I have a few questions:

1. Are there any frequent changes in the directory where you try to rename the file?

2. If yes, try it in a fresh directory, e.g. c:\test with only one sample file in it (which you then try to rename)

3. Does renaming with F6 work (with both panels showing the same directory, or when manually removing the target path)?

You wrote:

2. If yes, try it in a fresh directory, e.g. c:\test with only one sample file in it (which you then try to rename) -->I put a
one file in a new directory on partition C:\ It works better but not repeatable. ~30% positive only.

3. Does renaming with F6 work (with both panels showing the same directory, or when manually removing the target path)?-->
Renaming with the same directory on both panels with F6 works in 50% of the cases ( I tried 8 x times and 4 of them worked - if this is statistically enough evidence)

What seems to work: if I ask for the property of a file (in German 'Eigenschaften') and than rename the file name there --> it works 100% .

Best Regards

So if F6 doesn't work, then it's not a problem with the ENTER key - you can click OK with the mouse here. So it's a problem that the file is locked by some other program, probably a virus scanner or so.

Renaming with 'property' only??

Post by *Punger »

You may be right, though it seems to be highly uncertain to me.

A simple text file is blocked by another programm?
Other user have the same problem?

Why does the renaming works (100%) if I use the 'property' (Eigenschaften) function and rename there instead?

Interesting, do you use one of the WatchDirs options? If yes, which one?

Punger,
No, the question was if there is an WatchDirs=x entry under the [Configuration] section in your wincmd.ini.

Roman
Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

Indeed you don't seem to use any WatchDirs option. I'm surprised that the error is gone then, I'm not aware of any changes to the rename function...
