Freezing while accessing network (mapped drives/unc)

Post by *Tihovsky »

Hi!

Can something be done about freezing of TC while accessing network drives on slow connections (but even on LAN for a couple of seconds)?

Can only that panel/tab be freezed while TC preserves other functionality?
Maybe some multithreading with notification "working" or "background" in that panel/tab?

Other panels/tabs should be working...
Noreread is on, and it works but I find it silly to wait each time with whole application frozen.

Thanks,

1. Ok, that is almost fine... but same problem still exists in 6.52,
although it works somewhat better but I can't pinpoint exactly how - it seems that I get sand clock while working in other panel, but sometimes I can't work simultaneously nevertheless.

2. Another (or same?) thing that bothers me:
1. I enter cd \\someserver\some_share that is very remote
2. I wait for couple of seconds (wan), drive doesn't appear, I get bored.
3. I switch to other task - to do other things while it loads, wait enough.
I don't know wether TC continues to load in background or not?
4. Switch back to Total commander
5. Total commander freezes (not just freezes but actually tries to refresh drive all over again)
6. I wait again and go to step 3 again...

This happens if drive was not loaded before I switched to other application.
I use noreread every drive including network, and it works fine but only if directory got loaded before switching.

I would really support making a separate process for each tab if it could help waiting for drives to load.

3. Also, in directories with lots of files/subdirs - could TC load only couple to actually fill the screen (with additional option to disregard sorting for network drives).

This would all help i think.
Thanks, Tihovsky

Some hints:
- turn off icon overlays if they are enabled
- check option icons - not on net
- in wincmd.ini, add line noreread=\

I already have noreread=\ set in wincmd.ini
Where can I set up first two recommended options?

Thanks!

1. Configuration - Options - Display - File display - Show overlay icons
2. Configuration - Options - Display - Show symbols to the left of the filename - EXE/LNK not on the net

I tried those tips, but it's still the same here.
TC keeps freezing when browsing thru the LAN, when trying to access the LAN. Not always, but a lot of times. Probably the LAN setup has some problems.

But it would be really great if it didn't freeze the whole program, if the other half was useable.

Cheers!
