[TC6.54a] Shift+F6 renames the wrong file?

Post by *white »

  1. Select only one file.
  2. Place the focus on another file.
  3. Hit Shift+F6
The file which has focus is being renamed and the selected file is not. This is inconsistent with F6, Shift+F5, F3, etc..
Seems not right. What do you think?

:D I think it is set to be this way, and I think this is the best way.

if you only want to change one file name, there is no need to seletc it, just cursor on it, then Shift+F6.

Guess it is by design
This is inconsistent ...F3..
Depends on how you configured Configuration->Options->Edit/View: Viewer for F3.

Here it is set to "internal viewer with file under cursor" (F3)

I think too it is set to be this way, because the focus must go to the marked file to start inline rename, imagine this happened when you start inline rename using your mouse

You are right.

I meant Shift+F6 behaves inconsistent with other functions that can handle multiple files. When you configure an external lister, the F3 function no longer supports multiple files.

That's probably because Shift-F6 was specifically designed to handle only one file. ;)

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

Shift+F6 is not the same as inline rename by mouse. Try selecting multiple files and see the difference.

My point exactly. It should be changed now Shift-F6 can handle multiple files.

You mean like F6 - Rename each file separately? Or how?

Because I don't want anything about Shift-F6 changed. Anything. At all.

I think a change should be made only for the situation where one file is selected and focus is on another file. In that case the selected file should be renamed. This can either be by inplace renaming or by a rename dialog (probably preferred).

No no no no no... I can always place the cursor on a selected file, but how do I edit an unselected file?

It's not consistent.
  1. I think inplace rename with the mouse is different than Shift-F6
  2. Try: select 2 files
Place focus on another file, press Shift-F6
Why isn't that equaly handled as White writes in his first post?
IMHO Shift-F6 should be working on the focussed file if it doesn't belong to a selected group of files. Does it belong to a selected group of files the rename dialog should be shown (as in point 2). But it is still inconsistent to other multiple file actions.
