problem with language listing

Post by *ArsT »

Hi, i've searched the forums for a similiar problem for found nothing..

I'm an israeli user, and i have both english and hebrew files on my computer... the problem is that on older versions, the listing used to be in a way that english files came first (alphabetically), and then the hebrew ones after them (also alphabetically).

what happens now is that it's all mixed up: english files, then some hebrew, english again, hebrew .. etc.

can you help me sort it out and put it in the order it used to be on older versions?
thanks in advance!

Try the different values for the

[Configuration]
Sortupper=
Total Commander Help wrote:SortUpper=0 0: Default sort method
1: When sorting files, put files starting with an underscore _ last
2: Uses mixed lexical and numerical sorting, e.g. file10.txt comes AFTER file1.txt
3: Like 2, but uses StrCmpLogicalW for the comparison. 3 needs IE 6.x installed!
One of those settings should fix your problem.

Sorry for being a Power user. ;)

Maybe sometimes my explanations are a bit short.

So you're a quick thinker - it took about 15 minutes to figure it out.

Just for the records (in case some other newbie reads this thread hoping to find a solution):

You have to open the wincmd.ini with a text editor (the location of the ini can be found by opening in the main menu Help->About)

Then search for the Key 'SortUpper'. If that key does not exist you'll have to create it and test with one of the four possible values 0-3. They actually control how TC sorts the files in the filepane. Though I don't know which value sorts the files that way you're used to and I can't test it with my locale Windows version one value should fix your problem.

Maybe you could tell which value is the right one.

:) Hello, welcome aboard !

• Indeed when Sheepdog says :
[Configuration]
Sortupper=…

it's in the file <wincmd.ini> !
- This is obvious for everybody here, but I admit that you couldn't get it immediately…

 Kind regards,
Claude
