TC 5.51: Loosing connections in Novell NW6 network

Post by *dors »

Danish Economic Council, Copenhagen, 14.4.2004

Has anybody registered the above error?

Users complain that they loose the connection to a mapped network drive and have to make a "soft" re-login to reestablish the connection.

Apparently only users with version 5.51 are affected.

regards

TC 5.51: Loosing connections in Novell NW6 network

I know - and appreciate.

But I want to make sure that it really is TC (5.51) that is the culprit and not some other network failure.

I'm not aware of any such problem, but I recommend that those users who have the problem try if it goes away with TC 6.02.

Should this be re-examined?

I've had similar disconnect problems with NW6 drives for a while...since I may be the only one on our network who keeps TC open all the time, this may explain why I'm the only one experiencing disconnects. Client upgrades and tweaks to NW client parameters have helped, but it still happens 3-4x a day. As stated, a "soft" relogin (right click on the big red "N"...) fixes it.

Currently using 6.54a.

I'm not aware of any Netware-related problems at this time. At what occasions do you get these disconnects, e.g. when copying files, packing, or using the right click menu?

Doesn't happen when I'm specifically doing anything, AFAIK. Often, it's just changing to a network drive in TC. I may leave a drive on a background tab, then notice the connection's lost when I switch to that tab.

I'm not sure if it is a TC issue or not, just trying to cover all the bases. Going out to a DOS prompt and changing to a network drive has indicated the lost connection as well.

Some servers disconnect you after a certain timeout. It seems that this timeout is set to a very short period (e.g. 10 minutes) on your server. Maybe the admins could increase it a bitt...
