NAS drive gets garbage name after removing media

Post by *StatusQuo »

In TC 7.50, Win2k SP4:
  • - Using a mini NAS server with USB media, accessed via its IP address (\\169.x.x.x\),
    - after TC has read & displayed the contents
    - I can remove the media while the server is running (bad idea, I know)
When the display is refreshed then (with no media available in the NAS),
the name gets displayed as garbage: Screenshot.

It looks like a pointer to nowhere to me, but I'm not sure what the server reports as name (maybe the garbage is created there). I just wanted to let you know.
Also there were no further problems except the garbage in the name.
Who the hell is General Failure, and why is he reading my disk?

Thanks for the info. What name is shown in Explorer then? TC now tries to get the name from the system.

Edit: Unfortunately the image link doesn't work. Can you temporarily upload the image to our Wiki? You can login with your forum user name and password:

Hm, this seems to be related to W2k. Here on XP SP3 TC shows a message about "invalid handle", after "OK" it switches to C:\.
Explorer XP also shows a message, then an empty file list (grey background) - I'll check Explorer on W2k tomorrow.

Must have been a temporary problem. Here's the screenshot link in the wiki.

Hm, temporarily? I thought I can't delete things I upload to wiki, am I wrong on this?

Got it, thanks! You can't delete it, but I can - I will keep it there for a while until the problem is resolved, though.

Btw, do you get this only with your NAS, or also with mapped drives on other PCs which are inaccessible?

It seems to be only with the NAS and Win2k.
Tested OK with a share to a cdrom: display CD contents (root dir), eject disc, then reread.
Both TC and Explorer show the empty window correct then, TC with disc name [_none_].
Explorer never shows the disc name of the media (or I don't know where to look for it), only the path to it.

Screenshots:
TC_NAS-media-removed_garbage-name (in TC-Wiki) (updated, more details:path shows to be root of share)
TC_net-share_empty-cd (in TC-Wiki)
Explorer_NAS-media-removed_1 (in TC-Wiki)
Explorer_NAS-media-removed_2 (in TC-Wiki)

Strange, I will try to clear the buffer which I pass to GetVolumeLabel, and not rely just on the return value.
