|

In the x64-version of the executable file name = TOTALCMD64.EXE. This leads to poor portability programs, that cause TC.
Please do, that the name of the executable file was TOTALCMD.EXE and 32, and 64-bit versions.
With this there would be no problems if stored in the registry is not only a way, but the name of the executable file, such as is done in WinMerge..
If you have installed x32-version, then installing x64 offered to put him in the same directory, that is in ...\Program Files (x86), which is not true.
Please do the ability to install 2 versions: x32 - in ...\Program Files (x86), and x64 - in ...\Program Files.
Thank you. |

Hello, VladSh.
The 64-bit executables and DLLs have got different names so that it is possible to install the 32-bit version and the 64-bit version in the same programme folder.
I can assure you that this does not affect portability in any way at all.
The fact that very often on 64-bit Windows systems Total Commander 32-bit and 64-bit versions will be installed to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Totalcmd" is absolutely irrelevant.
Even if you decide to install both versions to "C:\Program Files\Totalcmd" on a 64-bit Windows versions, this will cause no problems.
Total Commander will experience no problems in either case.
Finally, in case you wish to install Total Commander 32-bit to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Totalcmd" and Total Commander 64-bit to "C:\Program Files\Totalcmd", fine, go ahead and do so. There is nothing which will you prevent from doing so.
You do not even have to install Total Commander to a subfolder of "C:\Program Files" or "C:\Program Files (x86)" at all, you may pretty well select a different drive and a different base folder.
Kind regards,

Hello, karlchen.
The problems are not at work with different x-bit-versions of the TC with each other, and when accessing the TC from external programs.
Example:
The code is written under WinXP 32-bit, ie from the Windows registry, I get the path, we substitute the name of the executable file = TOTALCMD.EXE - everything works.
On 64-bit system, I naturally will setup 64-bit version of TC. TC also all located in the folder Program Files, but the code will not work because the name of the file for 64-bit = TOTALCMD64.EXE. |
