Hello! My suggestions are based on current 8.0 Beta 22 x64 version, but it's not a bugreport, only an improvement.
1) Dialogue "Create CRC file" has 3 checkboxes, but they are used inconsistently. The upper box works as intended, but 2 lower boxes have the mixed checkbox/radio button functionality:
- to create CRC32, both boxes should be empty (no any hint about this);
- to create MD5 or SHA1, the corresponding box should be checked;
- these 2 boxes cannot be checked simultaneously.
This is weird behaviour from point of UI common sense. I would suggest to use 3 radio buttons instead:
o CRC32
o MD5
o SHA1
similarly to the dialogue "Encode file", which is quite consistent.
2) Dialogue "Verify checksums" is very simple, but have 2 problems too. First, its size is not fixed and can be changed arbitrary with mouse, even be collapsed to a title. 2 buttons can be easily overlapped, which is not good. Could it be possible to make a fixed size or to code a minimal limit of resize, like in FTP dialogue? Another weird thing is a Background button, which simply minimises the dialogue. User could expect a "background" like a background copy dialogue, but meaning here is different. Currently this button can be removed at all, or may it be re-implemented as a switch to another copy-like interface? _________________ Desktop: Windows XP x64, TC 8.0. 1) Few other people noticed before you and suggested to change it. But I don't remember seeing any official reply from author. I wish you more luck.
2) I'd say the "fix" for window too small and overlaping buttons is very simple: you have the power to prevent it, so just don't make the window too small. :) But yes, reasonable minimal size would not hurt.
Background button does not minimize the dialog, it does even less, it just brings main TC window to foreground. In previous versions this dialog was modal. Now it's not, so the button was probably meant as hint to users that something changed. It was nice thought, but it doesn't change the fact that this button is completely useless.
I'd remove it if I could, together with equally useless Advanced -> button in FTP: connection details dialog which just switches to another tab. It's just confusing for user, he expects something extra (otherwise why would it have separate button, right?), but gets something that he would get just by clicking elsewhere. |
