I have large hard disks also have large number of files which in course of my trade needs, I copy, move or delete very often. It takes sometimes over 120 minutes (500 GB, 18,000 Files) to finish.
However, not like in Windows Explorer as well in other double pane file managers, TC main window gets locked while such one operation completes. I see no point to lock main TC window when a new small window opens and takes care of current operation with many related options embedded inside that small window. By locking main TC window it is converted into single task software.
To be more specific, I want to copy files and delete some and move some, simultaneously, not wait until one operation is complete.
I would definitely like to amend this setting as default but if this has a reason to stay as it is now, I would like to know if there is any way to tweak it for myself.
BTW, what I stated above are only my own personal needs and there is no wish to suggest TC is a weak software. I am yet to find a better one.
Best of luck.

I think you can do like this.
You can copy files in the background, right click and drag the files you want to move / copy and in the window that pops up, click on F2 _________________ /Trast

@Sudip:
I can confirm the things Trast has said - there is a simple way of doing that in TC: you can press F5, then press F2 (or click on "F2 Queue" button in the Copy dialog).
This way you can do anything in Total Commander while copying the files.

@Sudip,
If you set AlwaysCopyInBackground=2 in [Configuration] section of wincmd.ini, you do not even have to use the F2 / Queue button. All copy and move actions are then automatically redirected to the Background Transfer Manager, so you can continue working in TC.

There have been many valuable suggestions but I think I need to be more specific in my needs:
While I want to copy/move/delete large data, doing tasks simultaneously, I need to keep control on selecting/deselecting individual files (sometime) therefore copy/move/delete in background does not work for me.
I have used Gyala's Norton until I found NC in 2006. NC is miles superior to former and I have no wish to go back.
Perhaps there is some way which gives me control in more than one small window until that task finishes.
This TC is wonderful. I have tons of thanks for the creator. |

I think what I am asking must be a system bug, or some kind of software limitation, because no help is forthcoming.
Therefore I have decided to live without it, because this is not enough reason to think TC is not very strong File Manager.
Thanks to all for efforts they took to try to solve my problem.
Best of luck. |
