A Better quick search for TAGS in next Total Commander 9

Post by *sticazzi »

Hi to all.

About the road map of Total Commander 9 (currently I'm not a registered user):

I Really Need An Effective way to quick search tags (with "instant search" or "search as you type" would be great feature).

Is it planned/scheduled an improved quick search for tags?

I mean, file/folder tags into comments are ok and descript.ion is ok too (imho better than file alternate streams).

The improvable feature is the quick search with more tags, e.g.: I want to find/list, in one search only, all files/folders with tags "e-book", "2015", "developing", "web".

Thanks

What are "tags"?
from my POV:
Any searchable metadata attached to (or part of) a file system entity.
- General (or free assignable) "tc.comment.contains:E-book"
- Categorized information like "anytag.artist.contains:Joni"
- File system information like "tc.fullname.contains:Paris"
...

The possibility to Quicksearch/filter the file panel not only using the filename but maybe all the visible columns of a custom view or a configurable set of different content fields would be a nice enhancement.

sticazzi,
Let me rephrase my question - are you already using a tag system?

Yes, I started years ago for bookmarks ( http://www.mitaggedmarks.com/eIntroduction.htm ) and with notes ( http://cintanotes.com/category/features/?page=feature-tags )

About file manager, I'm still evaluating between TC and xplorer^2.

TC would be my choice if weren't for Its lack of better quick search with tags: I would only need for that feat. (Perhaps with "instant search" or "search as you type" too).

So, Is It scheduled or not in the TC9's road map? Would someone kindly answer me? :?:

Many thanks to all of you.

Quicksearch and the corresponding filter have always been limited to the visible files. If this is enough for you - read on.
The plugin 'QuickSearch eXtended' already supports searching for content plugin fields. So all you need is this plugin and a content plugin supporting the tag system yo want to use.

For example (for TC 64bit)? Does It Really Exist?

But still no built-in native support in the next TotalCommander 9?

Thanks

I'm not aware of a plugin which is capable of handling one of the systems you mentioned. You could use the system in Windows or FileDescription instead.

I'm not sure if this fits your needs though.

I guess not (but I don't really know). It's more likely that this functionality is provided by plugins instead of the main program.
The only that must be improved internally is the editing of metadata (which includes tags). It's currently quite cumbersome.

Any word from the author/Mr.Ghisler? A simple "yes" or "not" is fine.
Thanks

No (in light of new infoes regarding the upcoming Total Commander 9), for that you need to switch to XYPlorer, Xplorer2 or Directory Opus.

You seem to know more than we do - where is it written that it won't be added?

There is no support for tags in Windows. TC already supports comments via descript.ion. Adding yet another system with potentially 100'000s of entries which needs to be taken care of when copying, moving, deleting etc. would only make the program even slower.

As stated in the first post, the problem IS NOT descript.ion or tagging, IT'S the missing of a better "quick search" for the Tags/Comments:

The other file managers (as stated from Axis) can do that very well (especially xyplorer and xplorer2) and fast.
