[OT] Good download manager recommendations...?

Post by *Hacker »

Hi,
Can someone recommend a good download manager please? Should have at least schedulable downloads, speed control, multiple downloads from same source and resuming.

TIA
Roman

:) Hi Roman !
¤ I use "Download Express", free for personal use. It has the features you wish, I guess. Quite translatable. Works fine under Win98 SE
P.S.: I have DSL!!! Yoohooo!
:D Nice ! The world is yours, now ! Glad for you !
* I've too, but only 128 kbds, 'cause these connections are overpriced at my IP currently, and I can't change yet…

 Kind regards,
Claude

As I can't live without TC, I would die without flashget (www.flashget.com).
Love that program.
After all, computers crash, people die, relationships fall apart. The best we can do is breath and reboot.

GetRight is one of the oldest download managers around and may fit your needs Hacker. Another good one is Download Accelerator Plus.

Since you usually tend to suggest excellent tools, I would appreciate if you could pick your favourite out of the three you have suggested here or overall! ;)

LeechGet is for people liking nice Windows style GUIs and the usual download manager style.
WGET is a command line app for hardcore users and wGetGUI is a frontend for WGET to make it usable for the average TC user as well. ;)

So, try out yourself, I don't use them 'cause I am satisfied with Opera. :)

Thanks for all the suggestions! Will test them all. I was a long time user of GetRight and now I'd like to see if there's something better.

[EDIT]
OK well I won't try download express, as it seems to be for IE only...
[/EDIT]

Thanks again

:) Hi Roman !
¤ I use it with IE6>>> MyIE2. But in the online manual I didn't see that you can use it with IE only. You may use the IE-cookies, or place its icon in the IE-toolbar - it's that I've read. It should be interesting to test with another browser ( I've not any…)

Same thing applies here but only for relatively small files. I love Opera (that's not a music taste) but sometimes resuming a cancelled download starts from the beginning. With a prehistoric dial-up connection I just cannot afford to re-download data so I have to rely upon a download manager.

I know that even a download manager can have a similar problem if a server does not support resuming but at least you get the ability to look for alternative sources with a good download manager. Having said that I probably download 70% of my files via Opera as well. The remaining 30% is huge files where I just cannot take the start-from-zero-bytes risk! ;)

Clo,
I didn't see that you can use it with IE only
On http://www.metaproducts.com/mp/mpProducts_Detail.asp?id=18\ it says:
MetaProducts Download Express is a small (about 400 Kb) MS Internet Explorer plugin application. Currently it supports Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 and higher.
