wish: rename fails -> don't reset name

Post by *compie »

It would be nice when I rename a file, and this fails (for whatever reason) if there would be a dialog box that allows me to fix the problem so I don't have to retype the complete new name.

Às workaround:

Use the Multi rename tool [Ctrl]+[m] to rename files. There is the dilaog you need .

Inline renaming, one of my favorite annoyances... :(
Apart from the multi rename tool, there are:
  • The command line

    Code: Select all

    ren Ctrl-Enter Ctrl-Enter
  • Select multiple files and check [face=arial]Rename each file separately[/face]
  • Or a special case of this, select the [face=impact]..[/face] directory and the single file/folder you want to rename, to get the desired dialog immediately.
I should add that I don't actually use any of those workarounds. In practice, when I'm paying attention, I just copy the edited name to the clipboard before pressing enter.

I don't want work arounds, I want a real solution :)
Why isn't there one? What are the reasons for that?

There is a wishlist with hundreds of proposals to improve TC. And it's still only Christian Ghisler who codes the prog. I think we should be patient (and sometimes a bit more ;) ) when our wishes slip to first position of the todo list.
