NTFS Links: Addon for creating hard/symbolic links on NTFS
Moderators: Hacker, petermad, Stefan2, white
The program is updated to the version 1.30. Sorry, no Vista/7 symlinks yet, but other improvements deserve publishing:
32-bit version, mirror (335 Kb)
64-bit version, mirror (353 Kb)
- The program is now Unicode-capable.
- Added 64-bit version.
- Added option for blocking the main TC window (emulating behaviour of standard copy/move dialogs).
- Path to the configuration file (/i=<file>) now supports environment variables.
- Default language is now English.
- Various minor improvements.
- Removed file with language strings description.

Remark: if using environment variables at the button bar parameter field then the percent mark "%" has to be doubled e.g. wrong is %COMMANDER_PATH%, right is %%COMMANDER_PATH%% .Path to the configuration file (/i=<file>) now supports environment variables.

It's described in TC help, and also mentioned in the NTFS Links help.

Thanks for your translation. One thing: I would rather use Abbrechen instead of Abbruch for language strings 2, 52 and 104. This is default for German Win dialogs.

Thanks. Did you not add your name into the second line deliberately or just forgot about it? I think it would be better if users knew whose translation they use.
2All:
How do you think, should I replace the Sheepdog's translation with this one, or add it as an alternative variant?

Deliberately. I do not care a pap for it. If you want you can add my name and link to my posting.Did you not add your name into the second line deliberately

Thanks for this great program.
Do I understand it well that the Vista / 7 stlyle simlink would be required for creating symlinks for files?
For me, it would be reasonable to have hard links for same drive but symlinks for different drive file mapping.
Are symlinks for files different from symlinks for folders?

100% correct.zsero wrote:Do I understand it well that the Vista / 7 stlyle simlink would be required for creating symlinks for files?
I intend to implement this behaviour as one of available options in the NTFS Links when I add support for Vista/7 symlinks.zsero wrote:For me, it would be reasonable to have hard links for same drive but symlinks for different drive file mapping.
Yes, but not much. The internal structure is the same.zsero wrote:Are symlinks for files different from symlinks for folders?

Is it possible to create symbolic directory link within the same directory, i.e.
where dst\ is a symbolic link to src\?
Code: Select all
[dir\]
-> [src\]
-> [dst\]
TC plugins: Autodesk 3ds Max / Inventor / Revit Preview, FileInDir, ImageMetaData (JPG Comment/EXIF/IPTC/XMP), MATLAB MAT-file Viewer, Mover, SetFolderDate, Solid Edge Preview, Zip2Zero and more
Why not? You can create both relative and absolute ones. But currently NTFS Links can't create symbolic links, you can only create a junction. But if you need it, you can use console command mklink:
Code: Select all
rem symlink with relative path
cd /d x:\path\to\dir
mklink /d dst src
Code: Select all
rem symlink with absolute path
cd /d x:\path\to\dir
mklink /d dst x:\path\to\dir\src
