Enh. request: Map network drives & send file via BT/ wif

Post by *Kralle »

First:

Thanks for a super product; I've been using Total Commander for Windows for years, and after purchase of a Loox 720 PDA, I'm using the Total Commander for CE, and it ROCKS!

I have a few enhancement requests:

1) Mapping of network drives.
The Loox has WIFI capabilities, and I've spotted a few other 3rd party explorer tools, like Resco explorer, that allows the user to map a network drive.
I'd very much like this functionality i TC for CE as well.

2) Sending files via Bluetooth and wireless
Would it be possible to add a functionality similar to the one that allows the user to send files via IR, to also include bluetooth and wireless?

Reg.

1) Just enter the path in the address field, TC should ask you for user name and password

2) I'm working on that, although I have no possibility to test it myself...

Unfortunately I had to give up development on the Bluetooth function, I'm really sorry. The problem is that the documented Bluetooth functions from Microsoft only work with Microsoft's Bluetooth stack, but almost no device is using this stack! Most devices use the Widcomm stack, which requires a very expensive ($1500) SDK to program it. I cannot justify to buy this expensive SDK for a freeware tool, sorry. It wouldn't even work for all devices - for example, Toshiba use their own self-written bluetooth stack, and so do some vendors of external Bluetooth devices...

Sorry to hear that!

But I understand.
Perhaps someone has a workaround?

Anyway, from what I saw on the Beta, it looks quite cool with the new features!

Still, if you'd want me to test other areas of the beta, pls let me know!

Feel free to test also the other functions! You can find them described in the help. The help can be reached via the PocketPC's main menu while Total Commander/CE is in the foreground.

Is it possible to provide this beta for wide beta testing? I would apprecite new version of Total Commander for PocketPC. I really do not understand MS, why they provide BT Stack withnout possibility to use it for file transfer. It is sad....maybe new ActveSync 4.0 with better BT support.

It's not Microsoft who provide this stack, it's the hardware makers like Compaq/HP who have decided to use the Widcomm stack instead of the Microsoft stack. Reason: It seems to provide more Bluetooth profiles for other devices.

But there are also a lot of device like the Qtek or I-mate devices which use the MS BT stack ...

I think if adding encryption and BT sending and receiving you will have a compatible file explorer to Resco File Explorer 2005, which is not freeware but hase these extra features built in !

Unfortunately the majority of devices use the Widcomm stack. I didn't yet find out how to recognize whether the MS stack is installed or not, so I could offer this function only to those users who have a device with the MS stack...

On the Smartphone, you can go to the address line by pressing the second soft button (File), then 9 (Go to). You can then either type a path, or press down arrow for the history, or up arrow for the directory hotlist.

Unfortunately the smartphone does NOT seem to have a network redirector, so you cannot reach any network shares with it.
