A more descriptive thread title would be nice. ;)

What happens if you start TC with a fresh ini, like

Code: Select all

totalcmd.exe /i=.\test.ini
?

Welcome!

please specify exactly which version number(s) of TC you've tested. Does the same problem occur on other machines/OSes?

Just try to start TC with parameter:

Code: Select all

totalcmd.exe /i=.\test.ini
That will create a new ini file in the TC program dir (named test.ini) and force TC to use it.

If TC starts with this ini there is somethign wrong with your ini - we could see later waht it is.

Ive tried Tc versions 5.5, 6.0, 6.03 6.53, Total Cmd Xp 2,6. they all worked once but when i try them again, even if uninstaled and instaled again they won't work,

and i also tried with ini files removed, with new ini files, with old my backup working ini files. the program won't start, like i never double clicked it.

even when i do system restore to a point when they worked they only run untill i start another program. after that tc wont start.

even when i formated my pc and installed a fresh x with nothing other installed then TC the result was the same.

Here's a external CRC-Creator/checker : http://www.del-net.com/download/DFCRC13.zip

Please check the CRC of your totalcmd.exe (V 6.53) It should be: 40AE5679

I suspect a virus on your system (maybe a boot sector virus - those are not even removed by formatting the HD).

Here the other CRC in case you want to check these files, too:

TC V 5.50 TOTALCMD.EXE 9EEF8859
TC V 6.00 TOTALCMD.EXE 7DFE85B3
TC V 6.03 TOTALCMD.EXE 74D67D00
TC V 6.03a TOTALCMD.EXE 81D3E7E2

it starts once or twice but when turn it off and start other program like firefox ord ms word, it wont start again.
Check that TC did indeed exit after you exit for the first time, maybe TC process hangs for some reason on your PC and fails to start for this reason?
Or it hangs during startup?

When you fail to start TC again, open command prompt (cmd.exe) and type following:

Code: Select all

tasklist /V /FI "IMAGENAME eq totalcmd.exe"
And also as Sheepdog already mentioned, do check for possible viruses.
Ambiguity succeeds where honesty dares not venture.

or download SysInternals Process Explorer (FileMonitor may also be useful for this)

Is .NET installed? Older versions are causing processes not being terminated correctly.
