How to change a string of text within multiple files?

Post by *jamesbond »

Hi,

excuse me if this has already been discussed on the forum, but maybe somebody has a quick solution. I'm quite new with totalcommander and only used it to rename a great bunch of files.

This time i want to replace a line of text (actually a hyperlink it is) within a document with another. It wouldn't be bad thing if it was like 1 or 2, but this time it's about 1000 documents I have go through. Does anybody have a suggestion? Thanks for any replies, it's much appreciated.

Ow, btw, these are txt, doc and html files

Greetings,
Rogier

U can't do it with TC.
TC is not text editor.

U can use
- InfoRapid Searh & Replace (freeware)
- Funduc Searh and Replace
- sed (freeware console port of Linux tool, most powerful, but hard to use)
I'm quite new with totalcommander and only used it to rename a great bunch of files.
Very big mistake of yours.

take care and swith to TotalCmd.

The real geeks probably use MiniTrue for that but when trying to understand that documentation I got the strange feeling that I need to jump out of the window. ;)

There is also ReplaceEm which is more easy to understand.

Nevertheless, most of the time I am also using that InfoRapid thingie because of the nice document preview.

EditPad Lite has this option too, plus a button to save all opened files simultaneously after the action.
