[REQ] Multiple sort - number size...

Post by *icfu »

...is very small. Especially when the arrowhead is pointing downwards, it's getting very hard to recognize it.

So, my list of proposals:
1. Draw the number always at the arrowend, so it never melts with the arrow.
2. Shorten the arrow or better replace it with a filled triangle (pointing upwards or downwards) and paint the number inline.
3. Optionally paint the numbers behind the column title, this is how it is done – for example – in Directory Opus. These numbers are much more readable but of course come with a cost: Column title has to be shortened if it's too long.

I agree that the numbers are too small. My suggestion is to use a real font as number. A complete separate font setting should be introduced. Alternativelly it could be just a setting which defines the size relative to the file list font size (for example MultiSortFont=-2 means file list font size -2). The result would be an increased column header height.
The current position of the number is fine for me.

I had initially tried with a real font, but unfortunately the result was even worse. Truetype fonts really don't scale well to small sizes, and pixel fonts aren't always available. I also don't want to install my own font, because this would prevent the usage from USB sticks.

One possibility would be to use a larger bitmap for the font.

We can try a larger bitmap font but please consider that there are displays with quite different physical resolutions. I guess we need not just one bitmap but multiple.

I too think the numbers should be slightly bigger, they are indeed a bit hard to recognize.

If custom bitmaps should be created, I hereby offer my humble drawing skills if needed. Just drop me a line in that case.

Statut quo…

:) Hello Christian !

• Apparently, no progress till today, I had a glance in the resources, still the tiny unreadable digits… :(

• I drew some ones a bit larger, by hand and also a try with the standard Win “SmallFonts” size 6 & 7,
it looks so nice, I guess.
- Available in a small SQX-archive HERE.
- I think to draw a set of such separate digits as a small DLL, usable from an INI entry, perhaps ?

EDIT : Done ! I've added two small DLLs in the pack above, one with digits,
and one with colour-marks for those who are not colour-blind… ;)

Hey Clode,

can you please provide an example for an INI entry with which it is possible to use your dlls?

Thanks in advance!

JohnFredC,
Use dots instead of numbers
Oh please don't. I doubt I could tell the difference between 4 and 5 dots.

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

A proposal

:) Hello !

• This is just a proposal… There is no entry currently. :|

- It could be something similar to the one allowing the use of external drive-buttons from a small bitmaps DLL.
- So, whether the Author should want to perform a test, he has the stuff ;)

 Kind regards,
Claude

Dots? Could be good idea if they will be positioned as those in Domino... you'll see the the number immediately
