Custom view (Really custom)

Post by *nsp »

Custom view is one of the most useful part of TC. But some annoying part are :
- It is not possible to hide/show dynamically column.
- It is not possible to re-arange columns.
- It is not possible to define a custom view without name/ext.
- It is not possible to have as many column as desired.
- It is not possible to have elaborated column definition. (See another suggestion)

First two points are even already available in File Explorer Win7 ! If available and persistent can even cover point 3.

Third point is not understandable at all . The resizing trick is not satisfying. TC is not only a file manager but for me it is more a data organizer based on files. Sometime file name are not relevant at all and i do not care of it !

I use a lot some data grid software and most of them have those as a very basic feature.

Point 4 is already responded by C. Ghisler. TC support a fixed number of column/fields and the author do not want to implement dynamic structure !

- It is not possible to re-arange columns.
Well, it is - but only in the custom column editor, not directly in the file panel.

It's actually quite easy and fast to rearrange columns: While in custom columns view, right click on the column header and choose "Change this custom columns view". Then click on the colomn and then on the up/down arrows on the right to move it where you want it.

What i really miss is a way to really hide/show column and specially extension and have name only showing icon !

What you propose is inside custom view configuration a way to have permanent changes. I can manage it with temporary copy but using arrow key is less practical than using mouse drag and drop.

It do not solve the Show/Hide issue as i can delete a column but the definition, the place, everything is lost if i want to show it again with this new arrangement. Reducing to Zero do not really reduce to Zero pixel.

I also like Right justified column for numbers. I'm alway confuse to have to resize extension column to have size readable ! ( The way size column is formatted is really messy !)
--edited This apply only to standard size column in full view
