Consider a situation where you setup all kinds of configurations in a "search in separate process" window. Such configurations include setting up plugins, filters, exclusions, etc. When you hit ESC, the search window closes and you lose all configurations. I find using ESC is handy in many situations especially in lister and others but I believe it should be optional when running for example the search in a separate process to conserve configurations and leave it up to the user to close the search window then.

Perhaps it would be better to save search preset as 'Last standalone search' or something like this...

Please consider this a priority. I just pressed ESC hoping to stop a search in progress but when I pressed ESC, it took affect right after when the search query finished and caused the search window to terminate and so losing all my search configuration. I now have to open up a new search window and configure all those search configurations all over again.
