Uh, what's the reasoning behind removing features that other people (might) use? I, for one, use the TC FTP client quite regularly, and although I've never used the direct cable connection, I can imagine that other people find it useful. If some rarely used feature would cost time to maintain it or make changes to, I could understand, but the mentioned features have been (largely) unchanged for several years, and they work fine, so why bother?

Focus on file management
Those options are for file management via cable - why is that less valid to have than vial FTP or LAN - in your oppinion?

What should be the benefit of removing those functions, that are of benefit to many users?

If you are a system administrator and want to block these functions for security reasons, you can do this via registry:

1. Create key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ghisler\Total Commander\Configuration
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Ghisler\Total Commander\Configuration

2. Create value of type REG_DWORD named RestrictInterface

3. Set value as described in Help, wincmd.ini section 4b:

Disable parts of the user interface. Just build the sum of the following options:
1=Start menu
2=Command line
4=Buttonbar change
8=Drive right click menu
16=File right click menu
32=Directory hotlist change
128=ENTER key (run programs, open files)
256=File system plugins
512=Port connection (via USB or LPT)
1024=Disable update checks (manual and automatic)

So to disable FTP and Port connection, add 64 and 512:

RestrictInterface value set to 576

Please note that the values of RestrictInterface in wincmd.ini and the two registry locations are combined with OR, so the user cannot reduce the restrictions by adding his own RestrictInterface value. Just make the registry keys read only for the user.
