Find Files, Find duplicates files: option for addition Search for: location to feed some duplicates to opposite panel

Post by *DrShark »

Often case when searching for duplicates is to perform further operations only for duplicates found in certain locations.

However, the way TC shows the results of dupluicates search doesn't provide an easy way to distingish the files wich we just want to see without further operations on them and the files for which we will do some actions: Total Commander shows all the duplicates it finds in one list (one panel), with groups of same files separated by dahed lines, and use basically have to select each file for further action manually.

I suggest to add for "Find duplicates files:" group of oprions an additonal one, "Search in: (to feed in secnd panel)".
When searching, the paths set with that options will be treated just like locations additional already set in "Search in:" field set in General tab of Find Files, and they'll be listed together in the search results list of Find Files tool.
However, after "Feed to listbox" action, TC will feed the files found "Search in:" field of General tap to active panel, and the files that match locations set by "Search in: (to feed in secnd panel)" option of "Find duplicates files:" group will go to an opposite (inactive) file panel. There could be also an option for what to do with files that match locations from both Search For fields locations (feed only to active, inactive, or both panels).

When you have fed a search for duplicates to listbox - you can open a special window to select duplicate files - you do that by pressing + on the numeric keyboard (cm_SpreadSelection). Does that dialog provide any of the functionality you ask for?

Well, it provides Select by folder feature, and some options to select files there by pattern, but the approach I suggested can make selection of desired duplicates easier for some cases.
And that dialog could then also have options to apply selection configured there to active, inactive or both panels with duplicates.
