Unfortunately, there are too small relationships between science and human minds and emotions. Many people get used to old prefixes. Replacing them with the new ones inevitably will lead to mass confusion. When you tell "kilobyte" the users will not know whether you are using the old system (1024) or new one (1000).

And, finally, maybe I could make myself accept these bi-prefixes if they did not sound so disgustingly (at least, for my own ears). :( I just can't hear these awful names. Science or not science - I'm a human and have my tastes and distastes.
