Neither can I. I have hidden/system files shown all the time, permanently, and never had a crash in Search function.

Where are the programming gurus who will be able to tell from the access violation address 0x38442D33 given in xtrician's screenshot if it is T.C. itself that causes the access violation or some external module?

By the way, never came across this issue myself, either.

On my system (and probably on all other WinXP systems), this address is not in use. For example, I have a huge empty block at 0x36f1c000 - 0x597d0000 in the virtual memory space of TC right now.

Seems the address itself doesn't help at all in pinpointing the fault.

You could try reproducing it in safe mode, if it doesn't crash there, then it is some driver/shell extension/... and not TC.

The address doesn't look like an address at all - but rather as a part of a text string ("3-D8").
Could be a coincidence, but it could also suggest a buffer overflow with stack corruption (too long path maybe?)

Can you make the search window a bit larger before starting the search? This way you can see the complete path where the error occurs. Try to go to that directory -> any problems?

Is there a chance some plugin or perhaps antivirus is causing this?

Yes, that's possible. But to find out the reason, we need to know in which directory the error occurs, and what can be found there...

WARNING 2 Moderators / Xtrician / Stance

Kaspersky Internet Security just warned me that the web page in Xtrician's and Stance's posts is used for phishing. If indeed it is true then it should be removed.
