TC crashes when pressing key and mouse

Post by *bigjb »

Hi,

I noticed that TC crashes when pressing the 'rigth click key' on microsoft keyboard and while this key still pressed right clicking with the mouse.

Cheers

:) Hello ! Welcome aboard !

• This doesn't occur here neither with 7.0 RC3 nor with 6.56 nor even with an old 6.03a.
- Right clicking on the same item than the one selected when I press¦keep pressed the local-menu key does nothing,
except a flickering (one shot), because the R-click takes precedence over the pressed key.

- R-clicking on another item in the same situation opens the local menu for this other item (same reason than above).

- Please, let's know which version you are talking of, and the address of the error.

- Often, this is caused by some faulty shell extension coming from another programme…

• Use a free tool like ShellExView to disable the extensions in the menu one by one, till the crash no longer occurs…
- Disable the newest installed first, of course.

NOTE : WinXP-Pro SP1 here. Left mouse button for selection.

 Kind regards,
Claude

Hey, I can confirm this! Even when all context menu items are disabled by ShellExView (good tip, Clo), TC suddenly disappears. Also a collegue confirms the behaviour.

I am using TC7.0 RC1, he has 6.56.

edit: both using WinXP Pro SP2.

Confirmed: TC7.0rc2 on WinXP Pro SP2.

ShellExtensions:
+ only the standard Windows Shell Extensions
+ plus "Scan for viruses ..." (Symantec v10.1.5.5010)

(Never occurred to me to do such a weird thing, though. )

WinXP SP2: confirmed. Seems to occur if you press the right mouse button *before* the menu appears completely (i.e. press the menu-key and the RMB very quickly after each other)

*Edit: Using TC7RC1*

No, in my case this is not the point. Also after the menu is completely visible, if holding the menu button and clicking the mouse, TC crashes.

I could it reproduce in this variant:

I do not have Microsoft keyboard, but a standard keyboard with the usual ContextMenu button. My TC is customized for selecting with the right mouse button. So, I press and hold the right button, quickly press the ContextMenu key (the menu appears), then 1 second is out and the context menu from the long right mouse click would appear. Instead, TC simply crashes (without any messages).

I don't know what is going on here but it seems TC does something weird. I performed one of my greatly feared click orgies and TC didn't respond anymore

EDIT: I could no also reproduce Flint's observations. It just closes.

After the menu is completely visible, if holding the menu button and clicking the RMB outside of the menu, TC closes.

:) Hello Karl !
…(Never occurred to me to do such a weird thing, though. ;) )

• Same here, but it could occur unvolontarily by mistake or accident…

- I've disabled the couple of Win keys for that reason (I lost jobs with that),
but I keep the menu-key because the R-click doesn't work anymore in a programme
I use a lot with a workaroud (because a bug of XP…)
- But I can't reproduce with XP-Pro SP1, like VadiMGP says too.

Believe me, I have lived happily with a keyboard with standard IBM layout and without any Windows keys until now, but my wife spilled tea in my beloved keyboard

So I had to get a new keyboard with the afore-mentioned key, and I can now confirm the bug using Win XP SP2 and TC7rc2.

I miss my old keyboard

Well, TC cannot prevent you from doing every possible unreasonable thing. If you press the reset button, your PC also reboots, and TC cannot prevent that. It's simply not a good idea to try to invoke the context menu twice at the same time, so who knows what can happen in this case. I can try to add code to catch this special condition, but I doubt that anyone would make such an operation except for trying to provoke an error...
