TC 9.5b9 - internet links (.url files) are not opened

Post by *SSc »

Hi,

strange behaviour (pretty sure it still worked in b8): when double-clicking an .url file that contains a normal internet link, the link is not opened in the browser anymore. Instead a message "drive not found" ("Laufwerk nicht gefunden!" in german) is shown. Happens with 32-bit and 64-bit version.
Can anybody confirm this behaviour?

In Windows File explorer the .url files are opened without problems with double-click.

Example: content of test.url

Code: Select all

[InternetShortcut]
URL=https://www.spiegel.de/
best regards,
Stefan

Addendum: when I try to open the .url file via default action in context menu, it works fine.

I can confirm the issue with test.url with content from start post:
TC doesn't start a browser, instead it tries to connect to:

Code: Select all

Thanks Horst and DrSharks for testing!

For the sake of completeness I verified it again and installed Beta 8 and Beta 9 from scratch (clean install). And indeed I have no problems with Beta 8. Together with DrSharks confirmation this brings me to the conclusion that a change in Beta 9 has led to this effect. Of course I don't want to exclude that the effect only occurs in combination with any other setting of my environment.

The changes to Beta 9 according to history.txt do not provide any hint. But maybe Mr. Ghisler has an idea, which change in Beta 9 could explain the behavior

These "DavWWWRoot" seams to be related to...

I could auto-translate it when you paste an URL in the current path field. What do you think?

History.txt wrote:09.12.19 Added: Auto-convert sharepoint URLs
like https://intranet/projects/123/ABCD/Documents/...
to \\intranet\DavWWWRoot\projects\123\ABCD\Documents\...
in button bar, command line etc. (32/64)

I tested again with the test.url and I can now also confirm the problem.
But only with https URLs, http URLs are still working.

Thanks for finding that, the change for sharepoint URLs shouldn't be applied to url files...

history950.txt wrote:13.12.19 Fixed: Opening *.url files pointing to https urls no longer worked (32/64)
Seems to be fixed in TC 9.50 beta 10: now opening sample test.url, as well as other *.url with https addresses in Total Commander open the web browser with address from url file as expected. Checked on Vista 32-bit.
