Rename as admin doesn't work in multi rename tool

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Rename as admin doesn't work in multi rename tool

Post by *Lefteous »

Trying to rename files in the multi rename tool with insufficient user rights results in an error message.
Expected: Allow the user to enter username/password to rename the files properly.

The admin functions are limited to the basic file manager functions only, sorry. These are:
- copy
- move
- rename in place
- delete
- create directory
- unpack
- give yourself read access to a folder

Most advanced functions do not work with the admin functions. Here are only some which do not work:
- multi-rename tool
- synchronize
- create crc files
- split files
- combine files
- change attributes
- pack files
- compare by contents editor
- associate (creates user-specific associations)
- set a comment in a read-only directory
- save file list to file
- save file in lister
- ftp downloads
- parallel port downloads
- copy from file system plugins
- change button bar in read-only directory

The idea behind this is that if you haven't write access to a directory, you should not work with the files as if they are yours. Currently it's not planned to support the admin functions in all these functions.

Thanks for the list. It should be clear where it should work and where not.

Renaming a file in the overwrite dialog as admin doesn't seem to work. Could you please add support for this?

I tried "rename target file". I haven't tested the other functions.

Indeed "rename target file" isn't currently supported. I will consider it.
