Compare Files By Content - Line Numbers

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Compare Files By Content - Line Numbers

Post by *Valentino »

From the help:
"Newly added lines get the line number 0, existing lines keep their line number from the original file."
But modified lines also get the line number 0.

Yes yes. :( It is used to mark modified lines.

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

It would mark modified line numbers with color (e.g. blue). And inserted with blue zero.

Yes, this is by design, because the displayed line numbers are those of the _original_ compared files, not those of the new files! It should make it easier to keep track of what was there and what was changed by the user.

How about idea to mark inserted lines with color and 0 line number, and modified lines - just with color and keep existing line number?

Valentino,
Yep, but the counterargument was that the user might press enter in the middle of the line, so you'd have lines
76
77
77
77
78
...

In this case it could be:

76
77
0
0

78

Looks nice as for me.
