*.gzip extension not supported

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

*.gzip extension not supported

Post by *iana »

TC does not see gziped files that use *.gzip as an extension as archives it recognizes them only if they use *.gz as an extension
it's not a big problem ctrl+pg down still opens them but TC should support the gzip extension too

Enter and double-click also opens .gzip files, but the icon is not the usual archive icon, but just default file icon.

As Petermad says, only the Icon is wrong.

well no it's not the icon it's the internal association I didn't say TC did support gzip compression I said TC does not recognize the gzip extension I know it's a trivial bug I know I can associate the gzip extension with Total7zip but it's still a bug and this is the bug report forum page

I agree that its a sort of bug.
But there is no need for any additional assigments or associations
TC opens .gzip files fine as archives by double click or enter for me.
Thats the reason for saying its only the Icon which is wrong.

that's probobly because you have no file association for gzip on my system double clicking gzip files opens them in 7-zip FM only ctrl+pg dwn opens them with TC, I do agree that the default extension for gzip should be *.gz

edit
I think my download manager did the extension rename because the file I clicked on has a gz extension
http://www.oberhumer.com/opensource/lzo/download/lzo-2.10.tar.gz
but the file I get is lzo-2.10.tar.gzip
Firefox quantum is the culprit I use to use downthemall! but as all addons have been blocked from writing on disk downthemall! is dead so I switched to eagleget and that one seams to rename file extensions according to the mime info it receives from the server

yes it's my download manager's fault
https://imgur.com/a/KEY98
but I haven't been able to find a decent download manager for Quantum and I've been having issues with the buildin download manager as a lot of downloads don't start I'm not a Chrome fan so I'm stuck with FF57+

I have never seen any gzip files with .gzip extension, only .gz or .tgz (short for .tar.gz). That's why TC only uses .gz internally.

yes it was my download managers fault for renaming the extension yes the gzip packer defaults to the gz extension as I said I'm guessing the download manager got the mime type gzip from the server and renamed the archive from tar.gz to tar.gzip I should open a but report with them
by default the mime type application/gzip should use the extension gz
https://www.iana.org/assignments/media-types/application/gzip
but 7-zip does seam to support files with the gzip extension and while I agree this is my download managers fault you could consider adding it to TC's internal association

You can still open it with Ctrl+PageDown even if the extension isn't supported.
