[Old] Select files and similar dialogs: no help by F1

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

[Old] Select files and similar dialogs: no help by F1

Post by *Flint »

This is actually a very old issue. There is a section in the help that describes the file selection dialog, but you cannot get this help topic directly by pressing F1 in the Select files dialog, nothing happens. It would be logical to add F1 support there (and to the other similar dialogs).

Yes, that would be nice. The problem is that the help page doesn't have a fixed index, so it's just getting one assigned (English: 3230, German: 611). This would also cause problems with 3rd party translations like the Russian help...

Yes, the translated help files will have to be adapted, we understand that. Actually, we've already found at least one missing index in our file, so we'll have to fix this anyway.

Only I didn't quite get how it is that you have different index for English and German files. I thought, the index is assigned by the application, and help file must have the association of this ID with the specific page to be displayed. Or does TC have different IDs for this dialog, depending on the current translation? If so, how can we find out what the actual IDs are when the Russian translation is active?

If you don't set a fixed value for the ID, then it is assigned randomly by the help editor.
