Create checksum bug

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Create checksum bug

Post by *a_flying_visit »

When I try to create checksum of files on a pendrive TC checks all files and folders, but the cehcksum file (md5 or SHA1) shows incomplete list of files. On verifying checksum, the verification ends with "Cannot open X folder". It also shows only some files about two thousand out of total ca. 18 thousand.
One more thing: after creating and verifying checkusm WIndows 10 checks the pendirve for errors. None are found.
Checking and verifying files on hard disk seems to work.
All files and folders on the pendrive are readable. Synching direcotries between the pendrive and its copy is perfect.

Did you compare the files by contents? If not, you're not testing whether or not the files are readable but only the FAT/MFT contents.

All files are readable and editable. When TC creates checksum, the dialog window shows it is being created for 2810 files (which is correct and tallies with "calculate occupied space" results), but the cheksum created is for 1413 files one time, 1517 files another time...

Do you have enough free space for checksum files on your device?

Automatic chkdsk works in fast mode and checks only files, I think. You should manually run chdsk with /b or /r switch (whichever is available) to check free space as well.

However, it looks like a hardware problem. Maybe PSU in your computer gives not enough power for USB ports or your pendrive goes bad on your own and will die soon. Sometimes connecting pendrive to a powered (active) USB hub and re-creating partition may help, but if your pendrive gets hot after running checksum calculation, it probably won't live long.
