Multi-rename tool: new option "1x" doesn't work -> work properly

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Multi-rename tool: new option "1x" doesn't work -> work properly

Post by *rribot »

Hello,

I'm trying to rename multiple filenames by replacing APNxx by APNyy with yy = xx +1 starting from APN18 only.
I put this settings :
Search for : APN18|APN19|APN20|APN21|APN22|APN23|APN24|APN25|APN26|APN27|APN28|APN29|APN30|APN31
Replace with : APN19|APN20|APN21|APN22|APN23|APN24|APN25|APN26|APN27|APN28|APN29|APN30|APN31|APN32
Check box "1x" checked

And unfortunately, every APNxx is replaced by APN32 (the latest of the list)
It means that the tools doesn't replace only the first occurrence of the search.

Has someone the same understanding than me ?

PS : Thank you for this wonderful software and all the updates proposed.

Thanks.

1x is for the first occurrence in every name.

You should use reverse order to avoid overwriting.
Search for: APN31|APN30|APN29|APN28|APN27|APN26|APN25|APN24|APN23|APN22|APN21|APN20|APN19|APN18
Replace with: APN32|APN31|APN30|APN29|APN28|APN27|APN26|APN25|APN24|APN23|APN22|APN21|APN20|APN19

Well, it would be easier to use the rename mask instead:

Code: Select all

APN[C18]
That is, if the current names allow that, i.e. "APN" has the same offset in all names. But then you don't have to worry about multiple replacements taking place when using the pipe symbol. And, BTW, the 1x option works fine and it has been in TC for many years - TC 8.0 beta8 to be exact (someone would have reported it if it wouldn't work correctly).
