[TC 10.00 b 1a] Inconsistent version number
Ever since TC 4.0 all x.0 versions has been numbered with one decimal - so I find it highly inconsistent that TC 10.00 b1a is numbered with two digits.
I suggest to revert to one digit now, before the final 10.0 version.
Note - this forum section it called "TC10.0x bug reports (English)" not "TC10.00x bug reports (English)"

Re: [TC 10.00 b 1a] Inconsistent version number
On the other hand all other versions were two digits, so 10.00 is rather CONSISTENT with almost all version, and one digit names were incorrect.
Refering to forum name - 10.0x is fully consistent with 10.00 name. Respecting your proposal should be renamed to "10.x" now and back to 10.0x on later releases.

Re: [TC 10.00 b 1a] Inconsistent version number
2.0, 4.0, 5.0, 6.0, 7.0, 8.0 and 9.0 all only had one digit - so not all other versions have 2 digits. The only zero version that had two digits was 3.00On the other hand all other versions were two digits

Re: [TC 10.00 b 1a] Inconsistent version number
Is this only about the naming in the forum? I ask because I prefer to name the installer tc1000x32_64_b1.exe and not tc100x32_64_b1.exe, otherwise people may think it's version 1.0.

Re: [TC 10.00 b 1a] Inconsistent version number
I think this is mainly about name on title bar.
Re: [TC 10.00 b 1a] Inconsistent version number
My consideration is about the naming with 10.0 in:
'TC's titlebar
TC's help
TC's history
But I think the final installer should be called tcmd1000x32_64.exe just like we had tcmd900x32_64.exe and tcmdr700.exe and tcmdr600.exe (let's forget the tcm80x32_64.exe)
And the beta versions should be named tc1000x32_64_bN.exe
'TC's titlebar
TC's help
TC's history

Re: [TC 10.00 b 1a] Inconsistent version number
I think, having two digits is more consistent. Because when 10.01 is released, it lines up better with 10.00 than with 10.0.

It might be more logical but not more consistant with previous numbering schemes for TC in the past.I think, having two digits is more consistent. Because when 10.01 is released, it lines up better with 10.00 than with 10.0.

Re: [TC 10.00 b 1a] Inconsistent version number
Well, if there was a long-lasting mistake, and you want to fix it, the inconsistency with the previous erroneous behavior is inevitable. I don't think it's good idea to keep the error just because "it's always been so". (Especially, if that "always" is not really an "always".)
My opinion is, making it consistent from now on is worth it. History already is inconsistent, we cannot do anything about it. 1.00, 2.00 preview (but 2.0 release), 3.00, and only then 4.0 … 9.0. Also, if you want to cut off the last zero, then surely x.y0 should be written as x.y, but we had 9.50, 9.20, etc., etc. At least we can make sure that all the newer versions will not have this inconsistency.

Well, what is to belive - in these places there is only one digit:
Windows Registry:
TOTALCMD64.EXE:
Windows Registry:
Code: Select all
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Totalcmd64]
"DisplayVersion"="10.0 beta 2"
TOTALCMD64.EXE:

Re: [TC 10.00 b 1a] Inconsistent version number
Even worse with b2: "history.txt" says 10.00 beta 2, the title bar says 9.50 rc 1. Huh?

You must be having two parallel installations of Total Commander, 10.00 beta 2 and 9.50 rc 1, but start the old one.

Re: [TC 10.00 b 1a] Inconsistent version number
There is only one installation of Total Commander on my system as far as I can see. It's in my Dropbox and all paths seem to be correct.
As the previous installation was 9.51 final and the installer claimed to have updated it, I wonder what's wrong.
Problem solved: 32/64 bit did not work well together and, indeed, the wrong .exe was in my shortcuts. My fault. Whoops!
