TC 2.81b9: new app icon

Post by *Slavic »

While an idea to make the new adaptive icon in Android 8.0 style is definitely right, current implementation is not perfect. Here is a screenshot taken on my Nexus 5X with Android 8.1:

As you may see, unlike the traditional icons with transparent background and some new Google icons surrounded with white square, TC icon is surrounded with grey square and the contrast with the icon itself is quite low. Could it be fixed in one way or another?

Sorry, I have no idea how to improve it. Since there are no round floppy disks, I can't just make the disk itself adaptive. I have to place it on a background like the "Play *" icons on your screenshot.

Yes, I understand the idea, but should the background be white or transparent? In the first case we should see the same like "Play" icons, in the second something like the earlier TC icon. If nothing does work, it may be a bug in Android 8.1 (in theory, because this is the only grey background I saw). Or maybe there is a special way to control this background...

The color can be freely set. I'm just using a lighter version of blue than the actual icon. Using just white looks bland. But I'm open for other background color suggestions.

You should come up with your own version of a round Floppy :D a bet a designer would love a small challenge like this and could do it in seconds!

I agree the background colour isn't the best choice though, needs to be something more contrasting - try some shades of red to match with the logo.

And what about something like that (used other floppy icon)

It is not great, but I think it is better as with that background.

I changed the background to all white in the latest beta. While your icons look nice, it's weird do use round floppy disks. :)

I just received beta 11, its icon has now the white background, it looks in line with many recent apps from Google. Thank you!

It seems a really not that nice trend. I think that it looks bad on a white background. There should be a better way to show it.

Unfortunately TC really stands out when 90% of all app icons in the launcher are round/reshaped. Since a round floppy disk looks really strange, I use the same method as the play store, camera app, or photos app to add a white background. If anyone has a better idea, please let me know.

What do you mean? Just a white background with transparent floppy?

I mean transparent background.
I see some apps don't care much about shapes and backgrounds. Could yours be like those, please? Same goes for wifitransfer...
