I'm trying to put a link of a .pdf file to the desktop (main screen) of my Android tablet. A long-press brings up "create link on desktop" but it's not there after I do it. Can it be done? If not, how can I get a .pdf to my screen? Downloading it puts it into that folder where I can't get it out and I can't move it manually because I don't know where the desktop is, folder-wise.

Which Android version do you use? And which version of Total Commander?

Often you can use the alternate method when this method doesn't work:
1. Long tap on launcher
2. Tap on "Widgets"
3. Look for the Total Commander 1x1 widget/link
4. Place it where you want it.

I it works with my Google tablet, not with Kindle Fire, 5.6.1.0. Long press on icon asks if I want to delete.

You need to long press on the name, not on the icon.
