Player won't play aac streams (no sound) on Pie

Post by *mackeev »

TC media player (latest beta) produces no sound while playing aac streams from the Internet (like this one: http://ice1.somafm.com/lush-128-aac)
It shows some traffic activity (at right speed), but no sound.
OS: custom Pie (Liquid Remix).

It depends on the installed codecs - TC uses the built in Media Player Android control. Unfortunately there is no way to install your own codecs on Android, so all you can do is use a player which comes with its own codecs and doesn't use the Media Player Android control, e.g. VLC.

I see. Who would expect Pie missing codecs?
VLC, by the way, plays those streams, but... very poorly (choppy and stammering sound). We'll wait and see how Pie will develop.

VLC brings its own codecs, which means that they are most probably not hardware accelerated.

According to Google, AAC should be supported. But it costs a patent license, so it may have been left out on your device:
