BACK to previous menu instead of going one directory up

Post by *zcoke »

Hi

I have a bookmark on my TC home screen. When I open it from my home screen and go back TC always goes one directory up - instead of going back to home screen. Is there a possibility to make TC always go back to previous choice, instead of displaying one directory up? Maybe some plugin, or maybe I can configure the app to use 'normal' back function in options menu?

Sorry for my bad english

No, unfortunately not - the ".." entry is for going one directory up, not for going back. The back button is also used for going up.
You can use the directory history (first button from the left at the top).

I use Backspace and Alt+Left on PC very often, and it is a shame on MS that they made Backspace working as 'Back' in Explorer and browse for file dialogs, but on Android we have only one Back button and I don't know which action I would prefer for it more, both may be useful in some situations. Perhaps Back as a going back would be more logical in Android world, but go up should be easilly accessible too of course.

What if tap on path bar will do go up? Currently it does nothing. Or there is a plenty of space in the vertical bar between panels, you can add go up button there (so it would show ^_ button for going up, then after some separator three <- or -> buttons for switching panel etc).

BTW I also miss refresh button very often when I'm in the middle of large directory, so refresh button could also be added to the vertical bar...

Actually on Android there are 2 similar buttons: BackSpace (this one) and Back (may be a hardware key on devices with early Android versions, placed near Home and Recent Apps buttons.) Currently for both TC performs Go Up action, but it would be nice if one of that buttons would perform Go Back action. On my Android device BackSpace doesn't work (I hope yet) because of this problem, but if it will be fixed, I'll prefer Go Up action for BackSpace and Go Back for Back key/button.

Yes, there is a Backspace button, but it is only present on a virtual keyboard which is hidden when you're in TC panels.

But the "back" button in Android isn't hidden, right?

You can show virtual keyboard in TC panels with QuickSearch button (internal command 134 or 154)

I think it won't hurt anyone if in General settings near a setting "Exit via BACK button Only in home folder" you'll add new disabled by default "Go Back via BACK button Will Go Up instead if disabled". With this new option enabled, BACK will go back in history, and BackSpace will still allow to go up.

Ok, I see it, though I don't really think that it is handy to open on-screen keyboard for pressing Backspace, buttonbar buttons for history navigation should be more useful (100, 126, 127).
