Opening files from onedrive is dead slow

Post by *nitsev »

Whenever I try to open a file on onedrive it takes forever. For example a 12 KB Word file takes >1 minute to open if I nvaigate to the local folder and double-click the file in Total Commander. Double-clicking the same file in Windows Explorer takes about 1 second to open. I am using onedrive for business and there is no reference to external content in the file or anything like that. The file is fully synchronized so it should be considered to be a local file. Even if TC for some reason would go to the internet to download the file from onedrive, it would not take >1 minuete to do so.

System is Windows 10 Pro X64 and I am using Total Commander 8.52 64-bit.

Unfortunaterly I cannot reproduce this problem. Does this happen also
1. With Word files in other folders?
2. With Word files from the OneDrive folder if you first copy them with Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V (important, please use that method to copy) to a different folder?

Onedrive slow

I have exactly the same problem, took me ages to find out what it was. As soon as I copy the file outside my local onedrive folder it opens instantly. Inside the local onedrive folder it can take up to 3/4/5 minutes.

It seems random though, it's not with every file

Test

Post by *BigBenJM »

First of all sorry for my late reply, I missed your post.

I think you are on the right track. Basicly any action in my OneDrive dir from within TC is slow. If I try CTRL-C it is as slow as trying to open a file in my OneDrive dir from within TC. (Pasting is fast). Copying and pasting outside the OneDrive works as expected.

Hope this helps.

I see - did the files have a "!" icon? Then the file is not available offline and needs to be fetched by the OneDrive client first.

No, the files are available. Like I said, when I use Windows Explorer I have no problem at all.
When I try to save a document opened by TC this also slow. Again no problem when opening direct from an office app or explorer

I do not have this problem here with OneDrive. Maybe a program is interfering with OneDrive, e.g. a virus scanner? It's difficult to say what is going on during the delays.
